Is it more pleasing to God for someone to try to keep His commandments?

Because they are afraid He Will punish them, or because they love Him and do not want to hurt Him?

I suspect that both are equally important.

    See: Exodus 20:3, 1 Samuel 12:15, Psalms 119:155, John 3:16, 13:35, Matthew 22:37

When you learn the truth about Jehovah and his purposes and you began to exercise faith, you will come to understand that although you were born a sinner alienated from God, Jehovah through Christ opened the way for you to attain the perfection that Adam lost and to inherit everlasting life. (Matthew 20:28; Romans 5:12, 18) You will begin to appreciate the magnitude of the sacrifice Jehovah made in sending his most precious Son to die for you. Your heart is moved, and you began to feel a love for the God who has shown such great love for you.—1 John 4:9, 10.

That feeling, however, was but the beginning of genuine love for Jehovah. Love is not just a feeling; nor is it a matter of mere words. True love for God involves more than simply saying, “I love Jehovah.” Like faith, genuine love is defined and characterized by the actions it prompts. (James 2:26)

“This is what the love of God means,” wrote the apostle John, “that we observe his commandments; and yet his commandments are not burdensome.” (1 John 5:3) May we never neglect this fundamental truth: Lasting friendship with God depends on our obedience to him.

    loving and fear of displeasing

Dueteronomy 5:29“If only they would develop this heart of theirs to fear me and to keep all my commandments always, in order that it might go well with them and their sons to time indefinite!”

Isaiah 48:18 O if only you would actually pay attention to my commandments! Then your peace would become just like a river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea.

Proverbs 27:11 Be wise, my son, and make my heart rejoice, that I may make a reply to him that is taunting me.

of course, God said "if you love me, KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS"

WHOEVER SAYS "I KNOW HIM" BUT DOESN'T KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS IS A LIAR AND THE TRUTH IS NOT IN HIM"

    Isaiah 58:13

"If you keep your feet from trampling the Sabbath, from pursuing your own interests on my holy day, if you call the Sabbath a delight and the LORD's holy day honorable; and if you honor it by not going your own ways and seeking your own pleasure or speaking merely idle words,

    Ezekiel 22:26

26 Her priests have violated My law and profaned My holy things; they have not distinguished between the holy and unholy, nor have they made known the difference between the unclean and the clean; and they have hidden their eyes from My Sabbaths, so that I am profaned among them.

    Hosea 4:6

6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that you shall be no priest to me: seeing thou you have forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.
