When is it easy to learn to write Chinese Characters?

Hey Guys,

I've been learning Chinese for a while for speaking, understanding, reading and pinyin. Recently, I am required to learn how to write individual characters, when will it start to get easier to remember them. I assume, alike english, there is a threshold that once you pass it will become significantly easier to remember how to write the characters. Strangely, there are alot of characters I can read but I can't write. I can read about 500 characters and write about 80ish. When will is get easier!?

The Chinese people I've sought out over a few years to critique my calligraphy surprised me. Most of them don't have much writing ability either. It's one of those things that just isn't commonly done. It's better considered a specialized art form.

I don't know chinese but my friend andrew knows it fluently and i asked him if its really hard to remember all the different picture word things and he said it's easier than english because there are fewer words in the languages to know. i dont get that since we only have 26 letters, but i think chinese is his 2nd language not 1st so he's probab;y right.
