What can you tell me about ereaders to help me decide which to buy?

I think I'm finally ready to buy an ereader. Since I'm near sighted I'll need something that has a big enough screen so I don't have to scroll around too much. I'm also trying to figure out what eink is.

I would personally recommend the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite if all you are looking for is the E-book reading capability. The Barnes and Noble Nook is also an option but there is some uncertainty surrounding the future of bookstores like B&N and the leadership support for the Nook devices. If you want a little more capability such as web browsing and maybe other things you can download as "apps" like games or other services of e-book downloads, you may want to look at the full color Kindle Fire. it is an Android device where you can subscribe to any number of e-book services, even the Barnes and Noble one if you wish. As for e-Ink, that is just a technology of making the words on the page look like you are rwading an actual book. there are different text sizes and all of them should allow you to zoom to make text larger if needed. Here is a link that may help you: http://www.pcmag.com/reviews/ebook-readers however, i would recommend going to a store with a selection and actually hold them and view them to see which one you are most comfortable with. All the best to you!

Best advice I've ever received on this one? Try all types & models before springing for your own e-reader. I did this, trying out the readers my kids and grandkids and friends have - and guess what? I never got one yet because none of them are in any way as friendly and easy to "operate" as a virtual book. If you don't have a good local library, my condolences...I have to drive 10 miles in either direction to reach our two county branches and it's worth it. Inter-library loans have made access to the university stacks a cinch. I read 4 to 5 books a week, rain or shine, and would never spend my [pension] dollars on an e-reader. Nothing feels as good as a book in your hand - don't scroll around, fellow tribal elder - stick with paper and ink.

I have a Kindle Fire - I love it. It has full color and the font is adjustable for your vision. I use mine all the time. If you want to compare, I'd suggest looking at the comparison sites for ereaders, so you can see all the features of all of them. Have fun !

I like my Nexus 7 for a lot of reasons. It works OK as an e-reader, but I use it more for email and web surfing. It is nice to have access to the Google store, as there are so many apps, books & magazines available.

Can't compare it to anything, as it is the only tablet I've used.

It will be hard to find an individual who can give an honest comparison, since people only know about the one they have.

A consumer testing site would be a good place to find comparison of different models.

I am really not interested in one of them yet. I still prefer to read my books, and hopefully I can continue to do so.
