Undiscovered bacteria in Antarctica: Didn't I see a movie about this?

Scientists have discovered a previously unknown bacteria in Antarctica that only has 86% similarity with any other known life form on earth. Some speculate that this could have originated from a meteorite.

Didn't I see a movie like this before? I don't think it turned out well for the humans...

Clearly it turned out better in real life than in fiction. Whether or not the bacteria came from a meteorite or not, we did evolve into humans.

Antarctica is a good place to store how things used to be. There used to be more primitive bacteria. There have been many meteorite strikes over time.

The idea that meteorites may have brought life to earth are romantic speculation that help feed the need to go to mars.

Is there any relationship between the meteorites and the ancient bacteria other than that they got preserved in the same ice? Quite likely not. Meteorites become incredibly hot when they pass into the atmosphere, and any organic life would surely be wiped out.
