A Fragment of Seneca Translated by John Wilmot

    Or

The Nightingale and the Rose by Oscar Wilde. Technically a short story, but I think it counts as poetry.

    There isn't always a light,

that brightens the path we must take.

    It isn't always clear,

what can be true or fake.

The world we live in now,

even living here your whole life,

    is very difficult to understand.

    But just remember this now,

the world is so much more,

than a simple piece of land.

No matter how crazy it seems,

no matter how confused you may be,

this is where you will always belong.

Life isn't always how you want it,

    you will never be perfect,

you will not always know right from wrong.

But in the end, you see,

    everything will turn out okay.

It's hard when life can last so long.

But don't be depressed and live unhappily,

For you will always remember how you lived,

until the world itself is gone.

I wrote this poem myself. Sure, it's not the best, but I'm quite proud of it.

Edit! I just wrote a new poem. I've been feeling very inspirational lately. I hope reading this will help you feel better. :)

As a child, you believe life is great.

You never seem to realize you regretful fate.

You laugh, smile, and have a blast!

Oh why doesn't that good time last?

Within a moment, your world crumbles.

In that moment, your world rumbles.

You now understand, yet you just can't,

Get a grasp on that simple rant.

Is life suppose to be joyful and sweet?

Or is it suppose to stink, like rotten meat?

Nothing is now how it had once seemed.

There is no longer that happiness that once beamed.

You now moan, frown, and always feel down.

Every step you take threatens to take you to the ground.

Life is nothing more than endless pain,

That pours onto us like heavy rain.

Nothing will ever be like it used to be.

Oh why does it have to be me?

    --------------

But listen to me, my dearest friend.

This pain is just a passing trend.

It can be very hard, I know.

The pain lining up roe by roe.

But we all have those times,

When life feels like a deadly crime.

You are never alone, nor will you ever be.

This will happen to both you and me.

There is a lot of pain and regret,

But you need to never forget.

In the end, it is always worth it,

When you get through the hard times without throwing a fit.

In the end, your reward is great!

You will one day find your true fate.

We will all make it through this; me, you, she, he,

Just another way to say we.

We will all get through these times together.

We will be as relaxed as a flying feather.

Life feels like a challenge, like a cliff we just leapt.

But, my friend, life is a challenge we must accept.

I think that people should begin to listen to Simple Plan (not an album, but a great band). They are just awesome.

I hate how so many people seem to lack common sense. Really, I hate the whole human species (yes, I know that includes myself...).

    I don't care for game shows, therefore I don't have a favorite.

    :)

I'm currently digging on some Sara Teasdale....

I Have Loved Hours At Sea

I have loved hours at sea, gray cities,

The fragile secret of a flower,

Music, the making of a poem

    That gave me heaven for an hour;

First stars above a snowy hill,

Voices of people kindly and wise,

And the great look of love, long hidden,

Found at last in meeting eyes.

I have loved much and been loved deeply

Oh when my spirit's fire burns low,

Leave me the darkness and the stillness,

I shall be tired and glad to go.

    .....but you already knew that.

    BQ: The Mollusk by Ween

    BQ2: Static cling

BQ3: My dad and I used to watch reruns of the show What's My Line? and Beat The Clock from the 50's. They were awesome. The best part was when a family would win the big cash prize at the end of Beat The Clock and the host would ask how they were going to spend the money. They would have a whole list of what would be hugely expensive purchases today. They'd go f*cking bonkers even if they won a stove. Jeopardy is good too.

    Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the Pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

    For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

    Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll.

I am the master of my fate:

I am the captain of my soul.

    William Ernest Henley

BQ1: Jets to Brazil's "Perfecting Loneliness" The album't title may make it come as a depressing, narcissist listen but the the music is more alternative, with loud guitar and really great lyrics.

    BQ2: Superficial interactions.

    BQ3: I don't have one :)

If you want to edit poetry plus BQ1, listen to Simon & Garfunkel/Paul Simon by himself, especially the really early albums. Otherwise, get a volume of Romantic Poetry (Shelley, Byron, Blake, Wordsworth, and Keats are the best). BQ2 is Jersey Shore and game shows. BQ3 see above.

    I'm going to be really quite unoriginal and say Keats' Bright Star;

Bright star, would I were steadfast as thou art —

Not in lone splendour hung aloft the night

And watching, with eternal lids apart,

    Like Nature's patient, sleepless Eremite,

The moving waters at their priestlike task

Of pure ablution round earth's human shores,

Or gazing on the new soft-fallen mask

Of snow upon the mountains and the moors —

No — yet still stedfast, still unchangeable,

Pillow'd upon my fair love's ripening breast,

To feel for ever its soft swell and fall,

Awake for ever in a sweet unrest,

Still, still to hear her tender-taken breath,

And so live ever — or else swoon to death.

    BQ3: I hate game shows.

    Leonard Cohen;

I Have Not Lingered In European Monosteries from "The Spice-Box of Earth"

I Have Not Lingered In European Monosteries

and discovered among the tall grasses tombs of knights

    who fell as beautifully as their ballads tell;

I have not parted the grasses

    or purposefully left them thatched.

I have not held my breath

so that I might hear the breathing of God

or tamed my heartbeat with an exercise,

    or starved for visions.

Although I have watched him often

I have not become the heron,

leaving my body on the shore,

and I have not become the luminous trout,

leaving my body in the air.

I have not worshipped wounds and relics,

    or combs of iron,

or bodies wrapped and burnt in scrolls.

I have not been unhappy for ten thousands years.

During the day I laugh and during the night I sleep.

My favourite cooks prepare my meals,

my body cleans and repairs itself,

and all my work goes well.

BQ:The truth I don't really know. I don't know what most people like, or even if they would like anything that I like. So it would be hard to say.

BQ2: I don't hate nothing in music. What I hate the most is people who put others down for something they like. As in music.

    BQ3: Don't have one, don't watch them.

    take care
