So you watched the original FMA.
Now you go watch its movie Fullmetal Alchemist: The Conqueror of Shamballa. This is the conclusion and direct sequel to it.
After that you can watch its extras:
Fullmetal Alchemist: Reflections (A reflection on what happened during the FMA TV series.)
Fullmetal Alchemist: Premium Collection (3 OVAs with 3 stories. First one is called State Alchemists vs Seven Homunculi. The second one is called Chibi Party (Enkai-hen). And the third one is called Kids (Kodomo-hen).)
From there you can start Brotherhood. This is a remake of the original but it actually follows the manga's original story line. So the beginning is the similar but very quick paced since they know 90% of people watching Brotherhood saw the original. Brotherhood is 64 episodes.
Then Brotherhoods extras can be watched:
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - 4-Koma Theater (16 episodes)
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Specials (4 episodes. This has The Blind Alchemist story you mentioned. It's the first of the 4. These are only canon specials as these side-stories were in the manga giving more details on certain characters.)
After you can watch the Fullmetal Alchemist: Milos no Seinaru Hoshi movie and the Fullmetal Alchemist: Milos no Seinaru Hoshi Special (4 episodes). This is a stand-alone movie. None of the events in it affect the main story--actually it's not in the manga. You can actually watch it after episode 20 of Brotherhood if you want since that's when it would take place chronologically. But the movie was physically made after Brotherhood finished.
And that is ALL the visual media of the Fullmetal Alchemist franchise.

Watch the movie now if you want. It makes no sense in the canon FMA plot line although it in itself is an okay movie. Plus it ends on such a weird note you won't be able to mix the two up. ^^ and the movie is on youtube, called Conquerors of Shambala

A couple come to mind immediately: * Xam'd: Lost Memories - very similar to Eureka Seven, sans mecha * Seirei no Moribito - excellent fantasy adventure, with sparse but very high quality action sequences * Spice and Wolf - this one will hit your "I want a Death Note / Code Geass intelligent protagonist". He's not trying to take over the world, but rather succeed in a cut-throat marketplace. * Dennou Coil - a pretty unique work. Kids wear glasses that let them see a digital overlay on reality. Good action / adventure. * Ga-Rei -Zero- - starts off with some high octane action. Good onee-chan emotional development. Tears at the end of this one. I've also watched a fair amount of romance/drama. Here are some choice bits: * NANA * Koi Kaze * True Tears * Myself ; Yourself
