How does one find out what is *legitimate*?
The Baha'i had Shogi turn up in 1931 and said "It can conflict with no legitimate allegiances, nor can it undermine essential loyalties.
The Baha'i are a prophecy from Michah 7 v 12. They have this notion about one world monetary system and one language.
Sounds rather Religious - but we insist on being Secular where politics are concerned.
Some 'names' need a slight change. Such as the U.N.. This will become "The Uniting Nations" instead of the "clique", the United Nations.
So what is "sane" ? The U.S.A. is the most dis united country we have. Each 'State' is more like a country than a county. Their

We were in Australia at the time and could only keep putting *East Yorkshire* on our mail when Lady Thatcher changed us to North Humberside. Seems the U.S.A. has decided to be *"some form of world super-state"* , Shogi's conclusion of what his words ment.
All isn't 'lost'. Christ's Second Coming is a promise. Muslims haven't the *beginning* of the story. That's our fault not yours. Religion is a National matter. The Pope is too global. And, being Secular leaves us all "up the creek without a paddle." Talk to Syria. Use Aljazerra. Weapons won't work.

I support a Third Runway at Heathrow, but not for the reason the Tories do. The opposition probably would like a few more houses, but we have enough of those already. A 'spare' runway would help keep things running if one needed repairs, or some reason caused another plane to divert.

IMO, a "legitimate allegiance" here is one which does not contradict the principle of the oneness of humanity. In the contexts in which Shoghi Effendi uses it, it seem to refer to what we could call today "identity" -- allegiance to one's city and country, ethnic group, football team. Whatever identification you make in constructing your identity, providing it does not involve "othering" or "demonising" others.
The quotes in context are:
Let there be no misgivings as to the animating purpose of the world-wide Law of Bahá'u'lláh. Far from aiming at the subversion of the existing foundations of society, it seeks to broaden its basis, to remold its institutions in a manner consonant with the needs of an ever-changing world. It can conflict with no **legitimate allegiances,** nor can it undermine essential loyalties. Its purpose is neither to stifle the flame of a sane and intelligent patriotism in men's hearts, nor to abolish the system of national autonomy so essential if the evils of excessive centralization are to be avoided. It does not ignore, nor does it attempt to suppress, the diversity of ethnical origins, of climate, of history, of language and tradition, of thought and habit, that differentiate the peoples and nations of the world. It calls for a wider loyalty, ....
(Shoghi Effendi, The World Order of Baha'u'llah, p. 41)
A word of warning should, however, be uttered in this connection. The love of one's country, instilled and stressed by the teaching of Islam, as "an element of the Faith of God," has not, through this declaration, this clarion-call of Bahá'u'lláh, been either condemned or disparaged. It should not, ... be ... regarded in the light of a censure, pronounced against a sane and intelligent patriotism, nor does it seek to undermine the allegiance and loyalty of any individual to his country, nor does it conflict with the legitimate aspirations, rights, and duties of any individual state or nation. All it does imply and proclaim is the insufficiency of patriotism, in view of the fundamental changes effected in the economic life of society and the interdependence of the nations, and as the consequence of the contraction of the world, through the revolution in the means of transportation and communication
