Is the Toshiba Satellite laptop good for gaming?
I am considering getting the Toshiba Satellite model P875-S7102 (Check it out on Best Buy's website), and I intend on doing a lot of gaming, game development, photo and video editing, yada yada yada you get it, right? So, I know with these specs it will be able to pull off all of this, but I am a bit worried about it's gaming capabilities. Is this model good for gaming? With it's processing, Gigahertz, and RAM possibilities (coming with 8 GB of Ram, expandable to 32!), That is VERY promising, but the graphics cards and whatnot scares me a bit, but not much. I am running on a 6 or so year old laptop, so I obviously am not necessarily up to date with much of what would be good for gaming, but I am pretty sure this model is pretty good for everything. Thanks for the feedback, and it is much obliged!

Game performance depends a lot on the GPU, and it depends significantly more on the GPU than any other performance component. The Toshiba Satellite P875-S7102 comes with integrated Intel HD 4000 graphics, and not a decent dedicated GPU, so you aren't going to get particularly spectacular game performance.
One area where the laptop does well, though, is in the display. The laptop's 17.3" 1920x1080 display lets you fit a lot onscreen, and also does pretty well as far as image quality goes. This is contrary to a lot of laptop displays (such as 15.6" 1366x768 and 17.3" 1600x900), which make things onscreen large and tend to be low-grade LCD panels with very poor image quality due to low contrast. This is an area you want to pay attention to in alternatives laptops.
If you don't mind stepping down to 15.6" (with the same 1920x1080 resolution as the 17.3" display), then you can get a significantly better GPU with the Y500.

- Avoid any models that come with the 1366x768 display and not the 1920x1080 display.
Dropping down the CPU to one that might be worse for heavy video editing, and plus $100 extra, gets you the SLI version that has two GT 650M GPUs working together. Considerably faster game performance in a lot of cases, but might not be as good for intensive video editing.

This is 17.3" with a 1920x1080 display and the same type of GPU as the Y500, but its i5-3230M CPU might not be as good or heavy video editing, and it costs $899 instead of $799.

- Avoid any models that come with the 1600x900 display and not the 1920x1080 display.
EDIT: This one is cheaper and has the faster CPU which will be better for heavy video editing, the same GT 650M GPU, and the same 1920x1080 display: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dell+-+Inspiron+17.3%2...

I do know it is a 6 year old publish but i'm frequently striking this right here for people who nonetheless have the quandary. Toshiba Satellites (at least the 15.6" ones) have a concern with getting the fan clogged with hair and dirt and factors it to over heat like loopy. Even if I put it on my desk and elevate it with cube. Most folks say you'll ought to open up the laptop and clean out the dirt however you might also use a store vac and put it over the vents. There's a video on youtube about it called "Toshiba satellite Overheating answer" that explains it a bit of extra. I might put a hyperlink but I do not want any computerized thing erase this for spam. I've accomplished this to mine and it works just so long as i've a strong enough save Vac.
