Oil Gauge drops to zero, then back to normal?

I have a 1999 Ford f150XLT, 246,000 miles. There has been a high pitch squeeling sound, and my service engine soon light is on. Not sure if I just need an oil change, but I brought it to a mechanic and they said the noise was just a bearing that's worn down. I don't want to mess around with the oil, don't need my engine to blow up. Someone help! Thanks.

You are dealing with several different problems here. First thing I would do is find a different mechanic who can tell you more specifically where the squeal is coming from. If you decide to fix that problem then you can work on the check engine light problem. An oil change is not going to fix either problem. My Ford Ranger lasted 365,000 miles so you may have some life left in it.
