Just as I predicted the Brotherhood of Italian Cardinals elected a Pope that is (in essence) Italian, right?
I mean Jorge Mario Bergoglio (Francis I) was born in Argentina but his ancestors were Italian, Cardinal Angelo Scola was one of the ones wanting to return to the old tradition of Italian Popes that monopolized the papal seat for hundreds of years.
Sorry Fitz
I mean that his grandparents were Italian, Scola couldn't have an Italian in the Papal throne so they elected a half-Italian Cardinal.
Dear Richard please read the whole thing before you comment, Francis I comes from an Italian family.

I never said I had the gift of Prophesy, I'm just exposing what I believe to be an act of Simony

Basically.
I thought it was his PARENTS who moved to Argentina - which means they were Italian.
That said, he didn't grow up or live in Italy for the vast majority of his life.

I don't know if you guessed that in advance or not. Not sure if you are boasting of your prophecy skills or saying you made a good guess.
I imagine of all the people who guessed the new Pope's heritage, some would have got it right.
No prizes this time, try for the lottery numbers next.

Apparently he is the first Jesuit and non-European Pope to become elected. Have you seen the newspaper headlines? All of them focusing solely on the transfer of reign from Benedict to Francis I. Exciting for sure, crazy.

Why is someone born in Argentina, "essentially Italian?"
That's like saying Cubans aren't Cubans, they're essentially Spanish.
The place where you are born and grow up has a lot more cultural influence on you than the place where your ancestors grew up.

He was born in Argentina so he is a citizen who has been brought up in that culture. His ethnic background is Italian but that doesn't make him any less Argentinian. So who are real Americans to you then? Is it based on ethnic makeup?

Using that argument they've all been African if you go back far enough.
Or if you think evolution is a lie (which even the last two popes didn't) then they've all been Middle Eastern.
