Which Francis did the new Pope choose to call himself after.?
Is it St Francis of Assisi or St Francis Xavier. Not that it should matter but I have a tender heart for Francis of Assisi as I love animals and became a Catholic and was married at St Monica's.
St Francis Xavier was a former pope..he has the odd school named after him.
Off my meds....I never even thought of Sinatra...hubby and I have,on occasion, had a few wobbly pops and listened to Sinatra...but I don't think he was ever a saint.
I...I can't print your name completly as I have a french keyboard (don't ask) but I looove Connie Francis. I also love Patsy Cline though...*giggles*
edit...not so sure that St FX was a pope....but he sure gave his name to a university in New Brunswick.

Saint Francis Albert Sinatra.
Hey, he was a saint to my very observant Catholic Grandmother anyway.
Okay, technically it was Assisi, but Sinatra would have been way cooler.

Let us hope that he does live up to St. Francis of Assisi's vision. But being the conservative that he is, I doubt it.
Personally, I think the name Francis should be retired and no pope should use it because I really do not see any of the elect Cardinals coming close to Francis of Assisi.

St Francis of Assisi, a very humble and earthy man, who so loved the birds and the animals.
To this day he is one of my favourite saints. He was in fact my favourite saint as a child, and I wanted my confirmation name to be Francis, but way back then, no one imagined a girl child could choose a male saint to emulate and honour!

My money's on Connie Francis; the resemblance is uncanny.

EDIT:
Connie Francis is an absolute treasure (yes, she's still alive); and just between you and me (and this from an atheist, btw) the new Pope looks and acts like a decent enough human being, too (at least so far). ... I wish him well.
P.S. As a dog/animal lover, I've always admired St. Francis of Assisi's compassion towards animals.
Time for a good Gregorian Chant or two [or three], won't you say? ;)

I assumed it was St. Francis of Assisi, but perhaps it was St Francis Xavier.
Either way he has a sense of humour. When the Cardinals chose him, he looked up at the ceiling and said, "Father, forgive them, They know not what they do.". He was referring to the Cardinals who just elected him Pope.
