Rifle build questions?
i am familiar with assault rifles and i know what i want out of my assault rifles however i want to build 2 rifles i like my ar to be capable out to 500-600m if i need it to be however i would like to build one semiautomatic one bolt action the semi built for ranges between 500-1000 and the bold action for 800out past 1000
i have experience shooting at these ranges i just would like to get better at it i just dont understand the specific tolerances and what i would need to build them the be the best
i am a firm believer that if a man chooses to use firearm, he needs to know everything about his firearm in order to use effectively, that being said if you build it yourself you know the weapon better than anybody else could

If you want a semi-auto military rifle that's accurate out to 1,000 yards, you are very limited. The .223/5.56 just doesn't have the power to reach out that far reliably. Your best bet would probably be a match grade M1A. There are quite a few options for a long range bolt gun. I have a Winchester Model 70 target rifle that was used for long range competition at one time. Neither of these rifles are available in any sort of kit form. They start as fully assembled rifles that are then bedded and accurized. I have played around with glass bedding and free floating stocks, but not in a way that I would trust for accurate shooting out that far. If you're serious though, there are quite a few books you can read on the subject. There are also many websites that offer advice and instructions. All you need to shoot long range is a proven action, screwed onto a good barrel, properly fitted to a good stock and you're good to go. Then you just need ammo that has been measured, perfected, and tailored to your particular rifle. Then you need to learn how to shoot it. It sounds simple, but in reality it's an art that takes years to perfect. In my teens, I was competitive in my class shooting 200-600 yards, but long range shooting was never my strong point. I was always amazed at Camp Perry when the Palma matches had perfect scores for the first three places and the order was decided by the X count. This isn't an easy hobby you're talking about getting into.

Are you talking about an assault rifle (select fire) or semi-auto only? To build an assault rifle, you will have to buy what is known as a "registered receiver", which was machined and registered prior to May, 1986. For a semi-only, you are looking at cartridges too short for the ranges you are talking about. The same with the bolt action, unless you are going single shot.
Those AR Bolt uppers are nice.

Don't believe you.
AR's are NOT designed for 1500 to 1900 YARD shots, and neither is the ammo; and IF you knew ANYTHING about the AR, you would KNOW this. They are primarily a "close combat" weapon.
BUT, for the ranges you are describing, you need at least a .308 and preferably a heavier cartridge, and suitable rifle, like the .338 Lapua.

can't legally build an assault rifle......can buy one for around 30k and customize it anyway you want......
as for building a AR that is bolt action that doesn't even make sense....
if you meant u wanted a long range bolt gun...gt a rem 700 in .308 and start building.....that is the basis for quite a few long range rifles.....
btw have NEVER heard of an AR that was accurate to 3/4s of a mile......

Join the military & get it all for Free & get paid too. Then you can have a assault rifle.

Sorry, you are too late to build an assault rifle. They had to be registered in or before 1986.
