U.S. Immigration process for Green Card?

I am a citizen and I am applying for my 19 year old son to obtain a green card. I have filled out the I-130 and I-485 for him. He has been living in the US for 10 years and does have a social security number. How long do you think it will be for him to acquire permanent residency?

Eleven million illegal aliens plus a few million visa overstayers live in the United States. Living in the United States for 10, 100, or 237 years means nothing in terms of immigration.

What matters in order to be eligible for Adjustment of Status is:

    1) that the beneficiary has entered with inspection (a visa), and

    2) has his passport with the visa, the entry stamp and the I-94 in it to prove # 1.

    If that's the case, AoS requires a lot more forms: I-130, I-485, I-864, 2 x G-325a, I-693, and, optional I-765 and I-131.

If your son is eligible for AoS, and you have submitted all of the necessary forms, then he can become a Green Card holder within 3 to 5 months. If you "forgot" to attach needed forms or supporting documents, it can take months for every single RFE where they ask you to please give them what they need to proceed. Thereafter the file goes back to the bottom of the stack where now also about 800,000 DACA applicants' petition, thanks to President Obama's executive order, sitting to be processed.
