Is the armed rebellion ptrayed in "Les miserables" a real historical event?

Les Miserables is famous, for the very reason that it's one of the few accounts of the June 1832 rebellion. The French Revolution was in 1789......and all it succeeded in doing was changing the line of KINGS.

The REPUBLIC was still years away, and like the book and films shows.......in June of 1832.....some students tried to fight for that republic, that had yet to still rise up.

And like the film shows......they were sounded defeated by the National Guard.

But their efforts were the inspiration for other barricades and uprisings, and eventually, years later..........that republic *finally* arrived.

Very much a real, historical event, and yes, General Lamarque's death was indeed the flashpoint.

First poster is technically correct, but "French Revolution" usually refers to the one that occurred in 1789. The main rebellion in Les Mis is actually the June Rebellion in Paris in 1832.

The big bloody climax was based on a real thing, yes: the June Rebellion (1832).

Aye, the June Rebellion, and I believe Hugo was so close to the scene, he had to take cover from the gunfire.
