Overweight People Running in Public?

I'm overweight but want to improve myself. I'm really self conscious about the bouncing and jiggling. Do you think that if I run on the sidewalk along the street people will shout mean things at me, or think "good for her"? Should I pay for a gym instead or am I overthinking?

Update:

Paul, no offense taken, but that doesn't answer my question at all. I am well aware of how to lose weight, I was asking about people's reactions to seeing you run in public.

    No offense meant at all, but the key to losing weight isn't exercise or anything like that (although it is good for one's health). It's simply eating less. Not what you eat, just caloric intake. 2000 calories of candy will make one gain just as much weight as 2000 calories of tomatoes and vegetables. Just try and limit calories, and you should lose weight.

    * They will most likely think ''good for you''

    * At least you are doing something about your weight.

    * Seriously, good for you.
