If I could give Phillies' answer 100 thumbs up, I would.
He summed it up perfectly!
The traditional conservative values of hard work, self-reliance, and
taking responsibility for ones own actions have slowly been eroded
into a general feeling of entitlement. And it didn't happen by accident.
This is a calculated process engineered by progressive leaders, for
the single goal of increasing their own power, at the expense of a once
great nation.

Here is a quote from 1787, Alexander Tyler (a Scottish history professor at The University of Edinborough) It's questionable that it is in fact from Tyler! But..it is so true in it's characterizing of Democracy that I don't think matters who wrote it!
"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship."
We are in this country voting ourselves more from the public treasury then we can afford. Witness the $17 trillion debt. We are in all likelihood going to see the collapse of this nation in the not too distant future.($17 trillion is $51,000 for every person in this country or $204,000 for a family of four. America is borrowing 50% of all the money the government spends.) To fix the problem would require doubling all taxes and add the equivalent of payments on a $200,000 home mortgage on every family of four. It you believe what I just wrote then you're probably a conservative, it you just said "that's BS" then count yourself a good liberal!

Depends on how you define "failing". Conservatism had some pretty significant gains in 2010, and Conservatives/Republicans still control the House. I wouldn't exactly call that "failing".

"Conservatives" Are single-largest ideological group in America
"40% of Americans interviewed in national Gallup Poll surveys describe their political views as conservative, 35% as moderate, and 21% as liberal. This represents a slight increase for conservatism in the U.S. since 2008, returning it to a level last seen in 2004. The 21% calling themselves liberal is in line with findings throughout this decade, but is up from the 1990s."

It isn't really failing--it is the natural shifting of American politics. When a Republican is elected in 2016 we'll be here talking about the end of liberalism.

The liberal mainstream media won't tell the truth about all the unConstitutional things this administration is doing. It's just handing out freebies and all the low info voters are eating it up.

Conservatives look at the future realistically. The left does not. They don't deserve a country built on a strong foundation. They don't vote for a strong foundation. They vote on ideals that can't be supported by reality nor sustained.

It's not. We lost 1 election...
and after leftards destroy the country a Republican is pretty much guaranteed a 2016 landslide.
You leftards need to get over yourselves..

Its not..the republican party is the opposite of conservative...thats the problem
the GOP is a tool for corporations to enrich themselves..they dont promote conservative values at all
