not to be mean, but to you guys who are saying you cannot compare them, that is the point is it not? to be classified as the greatest player to ever play the game as these two are, you aren't just seen as a runningback or a wide receiver, you are called the greatest among all the players to ever play

Jim Brown was outstanding, but I have to say Jerry Rice is the best player to ever play the game.

Wow.... Both are some of the best to play the game. I hate to say it cause I'm a rams fan, but Jerry Rice. Hold basically every record for wide receivers and was able to perform at a elite level for 19 years.

Jim Brown. In his era, he held every major rushing record in the NFL. He still ranks among the top running backs to ever play. He retired well before his body shut down and he was no longer useful. You're really comparing apples and oranges here, but if I HAVE to choose, I'm going with Jim Brown.

Jerry Rice because he performed at such a high level for a longer period of time and because he was instrumental in helping the 49ers win 3 Super Bowls.

None are better than the other. Both played completely different positions. Wide recievers go out and run their routes while catching the ball. Running backs (some people consider Brown a full back) get handed the ball off and run with it and occasionaly go out for passes and block for the quarterback. Would you say a kicker is better than an offensive lineman?
