If God knows everything, what's the point of praying?

He supposedly knows every facet of everyone's life, so why go through the ritual of asking of him in form of a prayer.

It seems kind of cruel and humiliating. For example, if my son needed money and I knew that he was desperate for it but he is also a very proud person, I wouldn't make him ask me for it. I would just give it to him discreetly.

Why wouldn't God operate the same way?

Exactly. God cannot answer prayers because, being omniscient, he would have already known for billions of years before he created Earth just what you would have asked for, what you'd do with it, what would come of that, and whether you deserved it, so he'd either have already given it to you or already denied it. Either way, you don't have to pray for anything.

Good question: Obviously others need to ask this and then they will come up with better answers the Augustine and his deceptive followers who never asked the obvious question. You should get an A plus for just asking. The Bible does give the answer. Isa.38 read about Hezekiah changing Gods word and mind through prayer. God changes his mind 11,000 times in the Bible someone said. I am not sure about it being that high but it is high. Why would you change your mind if you knew what the end result was? .... Rick Warren is a deceiver...

The whole idea of religion is total BS. The more educated I become about this, the more sure I get. The one and only way this makes sense if you follow these knuckleheads blindly!

If He already knows and has decided everything for us before He created us then prayer is absolutely useless. Now if He changes his mind because of our prayers then He was wrong at the beginning!! But according to the mumbo jumbo books, that can't be.

Think about this, as human race we have countless religions and everyone thinks their ones is the one.

No prayer ever gets any answer in the history of mankind, NONE!!! No cure of diseases ever came out of praying. Religions only separate us. Total BS. Prove to me otherwise, please!!

Well let's not assume he even exists in the first place.

He's meant to be all singing, all dancing if he does exist by very definition so prayer does seem pretty pointless. If he isn't all singing and all dancing then simply he doesn't exist or is an imposter.

I think Christians sort of know they are wrong but don't want to know they are wrong (if that makes sense to you).

It's like they believe in evolution but God set it into motion. They say he gave us free will too and they pray because it makes them feel good.

Many people, Muslims included, are confused about fate and destiny. They are not sure how much freewill they really have. They are not certain if they have the freedom to make their own choices, or if Allah has forced them upon a certain path.

I always believe the best way to tackle any problem is to start with the basics. So first, let’s lay some groundwork.

Here are a few things you should keep in mind.

    * Allah is the creator of all things, including our actions.

    * Belief in Allah’s power, knowledge and control of all things is one of the six articles of faith in Islam. This is called Qadar, loosely translated as Divine Destiny.

    * A person has the freedom, the choice, to do as he/she wants.

    * We have no control over the outcome of those choices.

    * The outcome of these choices is our destiny. Only Allah knows what this destiny is.

For example, say for instance you decide to go into business for yourself. You do all the necessary research. You consult others in the field. You draw up a sound business plan and line up multiple investors. You do everything possible to ensure that your business is a success.

Does any of this guarantee that your business will be successful? Not at all. The economy may falter. You may have miscalculated certain expenses. A natural disaster might wipe out everything you own. There are innumerable occurrences that could adversely effect your business.

It is vital to the Muslim’s belief that we understand this concept. After all, the word Muslim means “one who submits to the will of Allah.” By accepting Allah’s power, knowledge and control of our destiny, we learn to submit to what He has prescribed for us.

Belief in Qadar, divine destiny, prevents us from becoming too boastful or too despondent. When tragedy strikes us, we must understand that it is the will of Allah, for it to happen. That way, we learn to accept it with patience and humility rather than despair and frustration.

Because your Son is to Proud to ask. And the point to prayer is to Worship God and ask for His Blessings. This is how Christians Communicate with our Heavenly Daddy. He's not on dis har intortnut.

You're right. Jesus said why be like the Hypocrites who are just praying to be seen by others, and, besides, god knows your prayers before they are even said. So Jesus taught them what we all call the Lord's Prayer. It does not hurt to pray, however. Every single one of my prayers have been answered. Praying can also be to show respect to God.
