Which Active Ingredient in Ivermectin pyrantel causes depression?
My dog has her annual exam coming up the end of this month. The past year she was taking Ivermectin pyrantel, which causes very noticeable depression for 2 or 3 days after she takes this. She is going to change to a new medicine (pill) at her visit, but I want to make sure it doesn't have the same ingredient that caused this side effect.
Does anyone know which ingredient in Ivermectin pyrantel causes depression, so I can compare the drugs prior to buying the new one?
I know I can ask the vet when we're there. But by that time is could be too late for him to order something new that they don't already have. So I need to do this "homework" ahead of the visit if possible.

There are no other ingredients in ivermectin except ivermectin. The 'depression" that you see is caused from the dying heartworms larvae and not the drug itself. It is a shock reaction that sometimes happens in the use of Ivermectin. This can happen with the use of any heartworm killing medication.

She probably had depression from physical side effects of ivermectin. These medications are pesticides. Ivermectin works for 2-3 days to kill any existing heart worm larvae then it's out of your dog's system until you give it again in 4-6 weeks. Really there is nothing less toxic out of the pesticides than liquid ivermectin but maybe she's sensitive to that one and would do better with interceptor.
