Bill Maher says "Liberals - you could lose me" .. is he finally getting it?

Even the politically incorrect liberal knows that taxes on the rich have gotten out of hand

"Recently, Maher shocked his HBO show's audience (and Rachel Maddow) into silence when he declared that liberals might lose his support. Why? Punitive taxes."

"Liberals, you could actually lose me," Maher said. "It's outrageous what we're paying [in taxes]. Over 50 percent. I'm willing to pay my share, but yeah, it's ridiculous."

"At the federal level, where the highest tax bracket is nearly 40 percent, the "rich" provide over 70 percent of all income tax revenue. That's a big number.

And it doesn't end there. Consider state taxes. In California, the top rate (on earnings over $1 million) is newly increased from 10.3 percent to 13.3 percent. In New York, similar tax increases have recently been entrenched. High-income residents in these states are now regularly giving more than half of their income to the government."

I didn't think it was possible for a big time Liberal to actually learn something did you?

Update:

@Handsome Jack ... er, ah I think when he says "Liberals you could lose me" that it may mean he is a Liberal right?

Update 2:

@Mark. No. One step at a time. If he sees his mistake with one important issue, maybe he will eventually see the mistakes of his other views.

    You Wrote :

I am tempted to call you colossal stupid ignoramus but I would insult those that are .

You need to shut up and educate yourself and stop spreading filthy stinking lies in this public forum .

The URL below contains VERIFIABLE facts and data . There is absolutely no doubt whatsoever that the rich are in fact hugely under tax by any comparison .

    From thge URL below :

"In 2007 the richest 1% of the American population owned 34.6% of the country's total wealth, and the next 19% owned 50.5%. Thus, the top 20% of Americans owned 85% of the country's wealth and the bottom 80% of the population owned 15%. Financial inequality was greater than inequality in total wealth, with the top 1% of the population owning 42.7%, the next 19% of Americans owning 50.3%, and the bottom 80% owning 7%.[9] However, after the Great Recession which started in 2007, the share of total wealth owned by the top 1% of the population grew from 34.6% to 37.1%, and that owned by the top 20% of Americans grew from 85% to 87.7%. The Great Recession also caused a drop of 36.1% in median household wealth but a drop of only 11.1% for the top 1%, further widening the gap between the top 1% and the bottom 99%.[1][9][10]

"Wealth inequality in the U.S. is worse than in most developed countries other than Switzerland and Denmark.[5] I"

Since you love Maher ,the URL below shows again clearly what a fraud you are .

    EDIT :

Maher's comment on taxes was ONLY ABOUT CALIFORNIA .Maher has never retracted anything about the horrid wealth/income imbalance and the need to have the rich pay more .

Taxes are only one way to correct this obscene imbalance and in fact it is not the best way to correct the wealth imbalance .Virtually all economists including two economic Nobel Laureates , sate that the financial and economic disaster of 2008 and the theft of trillions of dollars from the 99% to the ! % was due to the Republican repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act in 1999 .The repeal was a reward to the finance/banking industry's millions of dollars in campaign contributions over the years .

In fact ,Maher was referring to the WAY the wealth imbalance is corrected period .

STOP using and abusing and taking out of context what is said .

No. He` trying to look cool by dissing the "liberal movement". He`s just ensuring further paychecks as he enjoys the "dumbing down" on a lesser level.

  • If Mittens and Buffet et al. were paying that much, then you might have a point, they aren't. They both have a lower tax rate than I do. I am not worried about losing Bill, whose he going to vote for, tea baggers, connies, ROFLMAO.

Lets go with this one. Glad to hear a Republican finally point out that Maher has some salient points to make. So you agree with his anti-religion, pro-gay, pro-choice, pro gun control, anti military, anti death penalty, pro stem cell research, pro science, recognition of man influenced climate change, pro public school issues too.

I find it hysterical that a joke commenting about high tax rates because he lives in California (yet still lower than they were in the Reagan days) ends up with Conservatives buying in hook line and sinker and they start to quote him.

I wouldn't trust Maher on much. But good for him at least finally realizing taxes are ridiculous.

Maher is ignorant on many issues - this is one of them.

He's a comedian, not an academic.
