ram not getting detected in one slot?

as usual there are two slots for ram on a mobo..

i had a extra 1gb ram at my home so i tried to install it but when i put the 1gb ram in the 1st slot, nd 2gb ram in the 2nd, pc wont boot up.

when i remove the ram from the 1st slot, pc boots up.

both the rams works in 2nd slow but not in 1st slot.

It worked once when i tried vice versa with rams, but now it isn't.

the mobo is asus m2n68-am+ and the rams are 1gb - Kingston KVR800D2N6/1G, 2gb - EMV 2GB 800mhz

any solutions?

    Read your motherboard manual:

If you boot with a SINGLE stick you can only use one of those slots. So try to boot with a single stick and test each stick one at a time.

    Both sticks work?

(If one stick fails it's that stick of RAM that's defective)

If they both work (separately) continue:

Now put each stick in the proper DIMM slots that your motherboard recommends when installing only two modules.

    Doesn't work?

    It's your motherboard.

Check the 1st slot. Dirt may have been the cause. Try using a toothbrush to clean the contacts.

Most probably 2nd slot is defective or have rust/dirt/moisture on its contacts.

i think your mobo's ram slot is broken.
