People are obsessed with looks yet increasing obesity?
How is it that our society in recent years has pushed on everyone through magazines, tv shows, etc. that if they look any less than a supermodel, than they're not attractive and yet the obesity rates have skyrocketed? I would think with this growing obsession with looks, that people on average would be more healthy, why hasn't this obsession translated into society yet?

"Growing obsession with looks"? When did that start? Haven't people always wanted to look good? Glamour, the women's guide to the latest fashion trends, outfit ideas, etc., was first published in the United States in 1939. Local editions are now published in numerous countries making it a global hit. So, I assume you mean right after 1939. Or, are you talking of the fashion magazines going back even further? The first fashion magazine was created by a man for men hundreds of years ago. The first "female" magazine appeared 317 years ago on June 27, 1693 in London.
The obesity epidemic - that only started about 40 years ago. Look for the entire time line of the obesity epidemic on YouTube. It's fascinating to see how an almost nonexistent problem in the 1960's now includes about half of 40 to 60 year old Americans & at least 20% of it's youth.
Interesting point on TV, movies, etc. They are all made to get the largest possible audience. If people aren't buying it, they go out of business. How do they get more people to watch TV, put more people on that reflect the "size" of Americans. TV shows now routinely use obese actors. Seems like half of them in the last 20 years have at least one obese character, whereas, more than 40 years ago few big stars or regular cast members were obese.

Self-fulfilling prophecy.
Also the more you think about your weight the more upset and negative you feel about yourself. We then seek for negative reinforcement(often comfort food) to allow us to feel better for a short period of time and thus created a downward spiral.
In order to learn about society I suggest taking a few sociology and/or psychology courses.

fat people think it's okay/not in their control that they're fat. fat people are the scum of the earth. genetics only account for around 1% of fatties.
