  • Is being religious a generational thing?

So I know a lot of atheists like to say that anybody who believes in god is a moron but I don't think so because I know a lot of educated people who also believe in god and creation, not evolution.

For example, my mom has a bachelors in business and my dad has a master and PhD in engineering which is one of the hardest degrees and he earns alot of money but they both believe in god and abandon their normally good senses when it comes to religion.

How much of a role do you think tradition plays in people of a certain generation not being willing to give up religion because of what their parents believed in?

  • Why isn't there just one religion?

Aren't the only two choices regarding god either atheism or the oldest religion? Because if there was one religion that was right, then it would have to be the oldest one since that would mean the creator of it personally saw god in the beginning and it wouldn't be fair for a religions to come about after people have died who never had the chance to even believe in it so it doesn't make sense that all these new religion like Mormonism even have a following when we know their not true.

  • Atheists-whats wrong with Buddhism?

Alright, I'm an atheist but admittedly I've never really looked into Buddhism because it just seemed so far out there that it wasn't even relevant so I was wondering if any of you knew some parts of Buddhism that are not only false but harmful?

  • Isn't god a bit of a drama queen?

Ok Christians, so I know you like to ignore this part of the Bible but remember in the old testament when those little kids made fun of a guy for being bald and god sent bears after them who ******* ate them just for that, isn't that just a little overkill being that they're kids?

Have you never made fun of someone in your entire life? Thats the kind of thing a teenage girl would do on her period to someone who made fun of her and there are many instances of similar things like this. Aren't you scared that an all-powerful being is bipolar and watches you all the time, convicting you even for your thoughts and expecting people to fix a problem he created?

  • Political Islam fading with the fall of Egypt?

Do you think that Morsi, who was part of the Muslim brotherhood, being taken down by the military and general public of Egypt is a sign of Islam's grip loosening in the Middle East? I was afraid for a while that Islam was taking over even Europe and Africa but this might be a sign its not, do you think so?

  • Atheists have no morals?

Ok I'm an atheist and I keep getting all this "how can you be moral without god" **** from religious people so I though I'd like to clarify it for all you religious people out there so you don't go and make an idiot out of yourself in front of atheists.

This is the typical argument I get: " Since you don't believe in god why is killing wrong or something like that and even if you do moral things its only to make yourself feel good"

My answer is if you really need a book to tell you not to kill someone then you're already a psycho and thats actually very revealing of you and of course we do moral things because it makes us feel good and you do the same. You obey your religious rules so you can go to heaven which is supposed to be a place of happiness but if god said that if you obey him you will go to hell you wouldn't so don't say you do it because god says so, you do it because you want to go to heaven. So next time you try and pull that bullshit on an atheist, think to yourself "Would an idiot say that" and the answer is yes so don't say it.

  • Raise my kids religious even though I'm atheist?

Ok, so first off, I haven't had any kids yet and I'm also an atheist, I just want to make sure to raise them right from the beginning and figure out how I'm going to do it before I have them. Now I think that people are either bad or good, regardless of their religious beliefs. and luckily I was born as a moral person but I don't think everybody is.

I think some people are truly immoral and always will be. The question is, what if I have an immoral kid who asks me something like why is it wrong to kill someone or something similar and I tell him because you should treat others the way you want to be treated but he just doesn't have that feeling that its wrong. Is that something that a psychologist can help with or does he need to think that someone is watching him all the time so that he doesn't do bad stuff?

What are your opinions? Are people born either moral or immoral or are morals just a product of the environment? I doubt it originated from the environment because when the first people began, they weren't raised in an environment and yet morals somehow came about.

  • Was Jesus good with the LADIES?

i was thinking with all those magic tricks, six pack abs, and an epic beard, he must have been quite a hit with the ladies. How many girlfriends do you think he had before he was 30? I'm betting about 400.

  • Atheists - do you think Jesus existed?

Ok I'm an atheist too but I don't think that if Jesus Christ existed it would change my mind, I'm just wondering, since I know alot of atheists have really studied deep into religion and history to make sure they're right about it, so do any of you know if the Romans had any record of a man named Jesus Christ that they hung? I don't mean Jesus Christ the son of god, but just a human named that.

  • Should it be illegal for certain people to have babies?

Do you think that we should make it illegal for certain people with genetic or other types of problems to have babies and if so what type of problems should be the criteria for this?

For example, a woman with a disease that would very likely be passed on to her children and make their life not worth living. Now I know that it is natural for a woman to want to have babies since we all naturally have an urge to reproduce, however I also think that it is selfish to let this feeling turn into giving a child a lifetime of problems. Another example of a problem would be money, do you think that if parents don't earn a certain amount per year for x amount of years, they shouldn't be allowed. I'm talking in severe cases where the child may starve. I personally think we could move evolution along in a positive way alot faster if we controlled who could have babies but maybe I'm wrong so what do you think?

  • How to disprove the predictions in the Bible?

Ok, I am an atheist but was raised a Christian so alot of my friends are religious. I've only started to tell people that I am an atheist because I am in a situation now that it wouldn't affect me negatively to do so and of course my religious friends like to ask me how so many of the Bible's predictions are true, like the one that says the earth was round thousands of years ahead of when that was accepted as the general consensus. Now I'm no history buff but I'm guessing that the Bible got that from somewhere else since its just a compilation of many stories and other books and added it in, so its not that the Bible said it first or maybe there is another way to disprove it, do you atheists know of any way to disprove that the Bible "predicts" this stuff because there are quite a few true "predictions" and its hard to say the writers just got lucky.

  • Is b*low*job in car illegal?

Ok so one of my ex-gfs had parents that didn't want her dating anyone so we use to meet up in my car (it has really dark tinted windows) and we would talk for a while and usually it would lead to a b*low*job after a couple hours. Anyways, I live in Michigan if that makes any difference and typically we would do it in the library's parking lot but always park away from others. Is this illegal? Are there any places I can go to besides a house or hotel that it would be legal at? Also, we're both 17 if that makes any difference. I don't plan on doing it in the future but just in case I get another gf with parents like that.

  • Atheists, why are most mass murderers atheists?

First off this is a question only for atheists. This is a genuine question, as an agnostic, I would like to know, if you think that lack of belief in God, has anything to do with why more mass murderers are atheist than religious. Now I know alot of you are going to say "but we have nothing in common except not believing in God so you can't group us together like religions" however I would like to cite an atheist serial killer who raped his dead victims "if a person doesn’t think that there is a God to be accountable to, then what’s the point of trying to modify your behavior to keep it within acceptable ranges?” - Jeffrey Dahmer.

So of course now you are going to say "well he was an evil person anyways so atheism had nothing to do with it'but if that was true, then people are just bad and good and it doesn't matter what they believe about religion so theres no point in criticizing religion. A few more big name atheist serial killers are: Joseph Stalin, Napoleon Bonaparte, Kim Jong Il, Kim Jong Un, Benito Mussolini, and Mao Zedong.

Also for the people who say "those people were raised 'fill in certain religion' " Yes, they were but specifically said when they were adults that they were atheists. Now we can't calculate all the old wars started by religious people (ie the crusades) or atheists (ie multiple Roman emperors) and religious fundamentalism has faded quite fast since we started recording history, so the statistics of recorded history indicate that atheists have killed about 259,432,000 people. We can blame alot of that on Communism and call Communism a "religion" but the fact is Communism was started by an atheist and continued by atheists. So just a genuine question, remember I am an agnostic, why do you think, as an atheist, that most of the mass murders in history have been committed by atheists?

  • Anti-theists, what if religion is a coping mechanism?

I've noticed alot of people on this board who are constantly calling religion evil and literally want it completely gone but have you ever considered that the only reason it exist is because people can't control the majority of things that happen in their lives, so they need "god" which really just is a hope in the future and thats actually what keeps life going. I understand you not wanting people to try to make you adhere to their religion's rules however, there are an increasing number of people who believe in a god that wants them to be loving, caring, etc. and I don't see why you have to make fun of that. You can call them stupid or weak-minded to need that hope, but at the end of the day, without any religion, most of the world would go batshit crazy so you should think again before trying to wipe it out because it may not produce the world you were hoping for.

  • martial art closest to Krav Maga?

Ok, I am planning on going into the Army Rangers and I know one of the main martial arts they teach there is Krav Maga but I live in the US so its not one of the most popular martial arts in our country yet. The only martial arts nearby are Taekwondo and Judo. Which one is the most similar to Krav Maga, and is it really similar at all? I've done some boxing but I don't really know anything about martial arts.

  • People are obsessed with looks yet increasing obesity?

How is it that our society in recent years has pushed on everyone through magazines, tv shows, etc. that if they look any less than a supermodel, than they're not attractive and yet the obesity rates have skyrocketed? I would think with this growing obsession with looks, that people on average would be more healthy, why hasn't this obsession translated into society yet?

  • How can I forget about God?

Atheists/agnostics, I don't know if any of you were raised in a religious home, but I was and have been trying to be an atheist for years but more importantly forget about God and religion because its so depressing and frustrating. If any of you were raised in a religious home or were religious at one point, you understand how hard it is to let go of something you were indoctrinated but I need to let go of it and fast because it is ruining my life because I feel torn between doing things I was raised not to do even though I love doing them. I know a lot of you are trolls but on a serious note, what things did you do to stop caring about it and how long did it take?
