Is being religious a generational thing?

So I know a lot of atheists like to say that anybody who believes in god is a moron but I don't think so because I know a lot of educated people who also believe in god and creation, not evolution.

For example, my mom has a bachelors in business and my dad has a master and PhD in engineering which is one of the hardest degrees and he earns alot of money but they both believe in god and abandon their normally good senses when it comes to religion.

How much of a role do you think tradition plays in people of a certain generation not being willing to give up religion because of what their parents believed in?

Well sure, the level of religosity is directly relational to the exposure to uncritical religious ideas during formative years, and exposure was definately higher in previous generations.

That said, resistence to change is definitely a generational thing. I'm not really sure why, I can only hazard a guess that more recent generations are much more used to our lives changing at the drop of a hat as new technology appears.

I have never heard an Atheist say someone is a moron for believing in a God. It is a common misconception. We generally say that, that particular belief is stupid. I do think it has a lot to due with tradition, and I think the more we delve into the technological age, the more information has been made available at the touch of a finger tip. So I think that the number of religious people is slowly falling, as can be seen.

Yes, the younger generation rejects organized religion. No one piles into the Catholic Church like they use to back then.. Young people are either becoming spiritual or atheist.
