How can I forget about God?

Atheists/agnostics, I don't know if any of you were raised in a religious home, but I was and have been trying to be an atheist for years but more importantly forget about God and religion because its so depressing and frustrating. If any of you were raised in a religious home or were religious at one point, you understand how hard it is to let go of something you were indoctrinated but I need to let go of it and fast because it is ruining my life because I feel torn between doing things I was raised not to do even though I love doing them. I know a lot of you are trolls but on a serious note, what things did you do to stop caring about it and how long did it take?

it is tough losing your religion it took me a little while. my biggest problem was fear of death. heavan seemed to make it better until i realized that existing for "eternity" did not appeal to me that much if you really thought about it. life would lose its luster. i remember something that was said in greek mythology, the gods are jealous of us because we die. it makes sense you would not value the sunset, good food, and even your significant other if you did not die. you know it would be their tomorrow and the next day for all eternity. its sad but its the truth. all you have to do is accept that your existence will end and embrace the chaos, then you will be truly alive.

Education can be the key. If you can explain everything properly and see the reasons behind everything (and still find any meaning in your existence) then you've achieved it. Also, learning more about other faiths might make your old faith more relative, because if you see the discrepancies you might scrap the whole thing (religion) altogether.

I don't think you HAVE to let go of religion, if you don't really feel like you can, there are different LEVELS of religiosity. Some people are very religious -> for instance no sex before marriage, others are less, but may still believe in God and go to church, and not see a problem with it. Not everybody is born to live the life of a pastor or a Catholic priest.

You talk about God, but which God, the God of Christianity?

If you have been brought up in a Christian home you will know the values of morality and what is right and wrong and the adversary will spend effort trying to persuade you that things are always greener on the other side of the hill.

If you have ever asked Jesus into the driving seat of your life, go to him and tell him and not Q & A how you feel and give him a chance to save you from the doubts and call of what is the way to destruction.

If you're having doubts about your religion it's because you have not been taught the truth. Read a book called. "Communication With the Spirit World of God by Johannes Greber". He explains our errors and then religion makes sense again. There are too many errors in the religions and that makes it hard to believe in.

"trying to be an atheist" ?

consider yourself one already. Youre in the hands of the devil now.

The more you do stuff u love doing that are against your religion, the more you will forget about God little by little, untill you know longer remember him and vise a versa .

Just.because you are "confused" doesnt mean God isnt real.

If you want to do as you wish, regardless of what it is. Be honest with yourself. You are doing your free will cause you want to, not because you really believe God isnt real.

Oh my gosh. You not being able to get God out of your head is kinda prof that God is real. I mean, people like Richard Dawkins, biggest atheist out there, cannot get God out of his head. Look at all his books!

Look these websites up. They are really good, and they can help you.

Ray Comfort has an excellent salvation message.

Also, look up Carl Baugh, Henry M. Morris, Chuck Missler.

Look, I know this is the opposite of what you want to hear. You want to do the temporal, and are giving up the eternal. If you reject God, you are seriously going to suffer forever, forever, in hell. Think about it. God gave us the perfect way out of that. Don't reject His priceless gift. He loves us, even though we don't deserve it, and we should accept His Son as a perfect atoning sacrifice.

Its similar to getting off drugs. Get counseling from some strong intellectual people, take some time to go over the scientific facts about religion, and when you really think you are strong enough, just step to the other side and cut religious oppression out of your life

If you try to be an atheist but you can't let go of God, maybe it's also that God won't let you go. God understands your pain, but he urges you to not run away, but to seek out the Higher Good. You believe, therefore CAN'T be an atheist, so just work this out with God and you will find hope sooner or later.

Once you know Jesus(God) it is awfully hard to quit believing in Him, especially if you have been baptized. In the near future, you will appreciate that fact immensely
