Do I have to be on my knees in order to pray?

Though I like praying on my knees, I find that sometimes I want to pray at places that... well, don't really have the cleanest floors. So what I want to know is this: can we pray to Lord Jesus via sitting normally or standing?

Kneeling is a great way to show respect and humility, but there are some places where you just can't kneel. Christ used the Pharisees as an example when he berated them for praying on the corners of the streets so that everyone would see how holy and spiritual they were. If you're in a public area where it's just not acceptable to kneel, God understands and you're welcome to pray in your heart and mind, regardless of if you're sitting or standing.

Pray standing, or sitting. Asking forgiveness usually kneeling. When in authority praying for others or for a change that effects many, usually kneeling. You also can pray genuflecting. You can pray lying or sitting up in bed, too, especially is you are ill. Some people just pray as they go through the day.

As far as I know, there are no verses on whether or not you should pray on your knees and no way else. I pray standing, sitting, walking, eyes closed, eyes open, out loud, silently, upside down (not really lol), etc. Just pray in Jesus' name. If you happen on a verse that says we should pray on our knees let me know.

    Hope this helps.

God wants us to have a relationship with Him. Not just come to Him when we need things, although He instructs us to come to Him for all our needs (I Peter 5:7), and to pray to Him continually throughout every day (I Thessalonians 5:17). And in every thing give thanks (I Thess. 5:18) -- for this is a vital part of prayer -- that we thank Him unceasingly for all that He does for us and to be concerned for nothing but bring everything to Him in prayer (Philippians 4:6). Given these instructions, I think it's safe to say you can pray to Him in any way that time and circumstances permit. For example, you can't always drop to your knees -- like at work, or when your in traffic, or to pray for an emergency vehicle you here passing by with their sirens blaring. I'd save the on the knees stuff for home, and for church.

    Absolutely not, James.

The only thing that matters is your heart, like He says about David.

But to give you a little bit of history, the Jewish people pray in just about any position you can think of; standing, raising their hands, flat on their faces, and anywhere in between. Silently or out loud, softly or loudly. You know what i've discovered as i've been researching learning about Islam (to be able to understand Islamic people better) ....... i've discovered that the way that they worship Allah and pray are so very much like the Bible shows that the Jewish people used to worship and pray to God.

. I am charismatic and a Messianic believer, so i am very expressive in the way i pray and worship, so i guess it is easier and more natural for me to be comfortable with expressing myself in prayer and worship in non-traditional ways.

. But, no, you don't have to kneel to pray, James.

I hope that helps you, James.

I will be praying for you and your loved ones.

God bless you abundantly, my brother in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

I have found this information to be helpful, i hope this encohrages you too!

Your bodily position or posture doesnt mattef to Jehovah God. You can pray to God while sitting, bowing, kneeling, or standing.—1 Chronicles 17:16; Nehemiah 8:6;Daniel 6:10; Mark 11:25.

Whether you pray aloud or silently. God answers even silent prayers that others aren’t aware of.—Nehemiah 2:1-6.

No you do not have to be on your knees. you can pray any time any where, even walking down the road. it is good to have a quiet time when we can wait on the Lord but that does not have to be on your knees in fact as it could be a longer time so better not to be.

You can pray in anyway you want, just like you can talk to your friend or father anyway you want. You are having a relationship with God so prayer is talking to God which is what really matters.

An extended test series among catholics has shown that it is absolutely inefficient to pray standing. The prayers they said while standing were never answered.

sure. praying on your knees is usually a more private, deeper communing with God.
