How to tell new employer that i'm in the reserves?
i have a new part time job. they already formally offered me (verbally, over the phone) the position. i'll fill out the HR paperwork here in a couple weeks when i get back from vacation. i have a 5 day drill next month. i haven't mentioned being in the reserves yet because i didn't want it to affect my chances of being selected. when and how do i tell them?
No J, it's actually illegal to ask about reserve status during the interview/ application process

you tell them you're in the reserves when you're filling out the paperwork & tell HR you have a drill next month. they'll accomodate. It's been awhile since I last filled out a job application, I'm assuming there's no question that covers reserve status which you would have fibbed the answer to, since that would be grounds for rescinding the job offer.

It wouldn't have affected your chances. And by law they have to keep the job for you even when you are away on drill. Be honest with your employer. If you don't tell him soon thhat could really burn the bridge of a good relationship with your boss. It's not that big of a deal, most people would be proud to have an employee who is in the service,
