Myriad = vast; variety; numerous, endless, infinite etc.
With vacancies in the ceremonial opening, there are myriad opportunities for late comers to fill unoccupied space.

"Myriad" is both an adjective and a noun, so it can be used in either of the ways you illustrate. Incidentally, it comes from the Greek word for 10,000, but THAT word came from a similar one meaning innumerable.
