Does anyone train like this in martial arts in their school?
Notice the guy makes some comparison of sports karate and karate. I'll have to check out the other pats of the video.

I though so, as soon as I saw him he reminded me of Asai Sensei, which is his lineage,
I had the pleasure of training with Asai Sensei at a few seminars, his karate was quite different to say the least and very educational, a lot of what Asai Sensei taught was in that video. I only saw part of the video, I'll watch the rest later.
He was quite an influential instructor. And his seminars were always enjoyable. He moved like no other karate instructor and even at an old age was very limber and mobile.
You should see his matches against some of the others like Kanazawa Sensei. There amazing.
Thanks that brings back a lot of memories, I forgot about some of the techiques and training methods he used but that remained me of a lot of them we did back that

Yes! Absolutely! The sad part is I was never taught this in Karate yet I could see it from my Okinawan masters all the time. I had to go to China to figure out how this is done and then incorporate it into what I did, a process that took many years of studying and piecing things together to make my martial art look more like what my teachers did. I really thought I was crazy for doing and teaching like this but apparently I am not. Thank you for posting this. I envy this guy for having learned this probably a lot easier than I did by having a teacher who taught it like this in the first place and not one who did it like this but taught you something different.

To a point. I didn't watch much of the video. We actually had Bertel Sensei coming for a seminar, but He had to cancel at the last minute, so I am familiar with some of what he does. I really like a lot of the things that Assai sensei brought forth. We still do a few of the Junro kata, not as a requirement but as an extra.

Yes, we do. Both in Taekwondo and Aikido. The material covered and the manner of technique execution is different of course. But that techniques are demonstrated and explained, with quality instruction - for sure. It would appear that the presentation was like a seminar - this was a huge class. Only my Aikido class is that large, and in Taekwondo we never have seminars or large classes.

Interesting enough, I only live about an hour away from him. I heard a lot of good things about him from my sensei. Yes we do train like this, but my club is more toward master Kazawa. There is some stuff that I don't like about their club and what they say that they are "the only shotokan" club in this area.

Yes though we do it a little different. In Taekwando we incorporate the wave on the center punch.

Brilliant! If you'd ask me, he has a lot to offer.
On a side note...does anyone else get amazed at how white black belts get with age...sweat...etc?
