Why has Obama not shut down Guantumano Bay yet?

There has to be more reason than because he's lazy to do so. He wants it down and it's not a big change affecting the structure of government. Why hasn't anything been done?

Who cares? It is just a bunch of terrorist being held there anyways.

In his first term Obama attempted to shut down Gitmo but congress simply denied the funds to allow that to happen.

Likely the same thing would happen again if Obama tried once more.

The important thing is he made it an executive order that "enhanced interrogation" is illegal at that, or any other, US facility.

It's quite simple. He signed an order closing it down the day after his inauguration. Then Congress, in it's fear that if we breathe the same air we might all become terrorists, passed laws refusing to fund it and making it illegal to transfer any of the prisoners to US soil.

Has nothing to do with laziness. It's this damn balance of powers thing, and one side of the triangle refuses to let it happen.

We have ample evidence that many of those released are already back with Al Qaeda. Gitmo must be a cause for great amusement among the ragheads. Had the situation been reversed, there would have been no one to detain. They'd all have been headless corpses.

My guess is the lawyers are shitting their pants.

A whole bunch of people are ready to get out of there with no accusation to level against them.

Loophole: Here's an idea: How about a place the U.N. doesn't recognize as ours, the Cuban doesn't recognize we occupy and they've been refusing to cash our rent money for it for decades?

You release them outside of that 'no lawyers' zone and they get to make complaints against people who've imprisoned them for no particular reason... for years and under horrific conditions... and every day they're held there, their case becomes worse against you.

He tried but Congress wouldn't approve his alternative arrangements for the current Gitmo inmates.

Because Congress won't pay for moving the prisoners.

    Read a newspaper.

He ordered it, congress blocked it. At least pretend you have a grasp of recent history.

Also, Republicans would not allow trials in the US of the detainees.

Because he said whatever it took to get elected.
