Why do fans of one genre of music feel that no other music has merit?

The elitists are that way out of plain and simple narrow-mindedness. I love rock primarily, but there are plenty of other artists in different genres I also love. There is good music in every genre and exceptions to every rule. Elitists should stay to themselves and not criticize others, especially the open-minded ones.

I wonder the same thing, it really grinds me. They think the music they listen to is superior to all others simply because they are the ones who like it. You 'would' think it's the best because 'you' like it! If I dare be honest I think it's the metal lovers (or metalheads, whichever you prefer) who do that the most. They put the others down because it makes them feel superior to all the rest.

Even music that I claim to hate with a passion, like some particular modern pop stars, I don't actually hate it or the stars or the people who listen to it. I personally think it's incredibly awful music but if other people like it and want to listen to it I'd rather not judge them because of their personal tastes.

Depends on what genre you're talking about. Mainstream rap and pop, I think they have no merits at all. Aside from that, I respect all other kinds of music.
