can an 18 year old female survive alone in L.A.?

Right now im 17 but once i turn 18 and graduate high school i want to leave my house. My best friend and i planned to move to Los Angles and get an apartment and she was going to work on her music career and i was going to go to college. She cant legally leave until 3 months after we graduate so i was wondering if i myself at 18 could survive in L.A. by myself? Im a 18 year old female and i am much more mature than others my age, so please don't tell me that it depends on how mature i am. I have been through a lot since my freshman year in high school and ive basically raised myself. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

Update:

ok so if LA isn't my best option do you have any suggestions as to where an 18 year old could survive on a low income while trying to go to community college? Or maybe taking a year or semester off of schooling and just working and saving money?

My ultimate goal in life is to become a pediatric nurse. Would taking a semester off be a bad thing to do?

It depends on the area, L.A does have its fair share of bad neighborhoods and gang violence where an 18 year old female going out at night would be a death sentence. The fancy, upper class condos you see in T.V shows and movies are to expensive for a 18 year old freshman to live in, you would need a roommate.

L.A isn't even the nicest part of California. I would recommend Anaheim, San Jose, Santa Cruz, etc.

Mumbai is nontoxic as every other Metro in the world. Like in any other colossal city on the planet, in case you are no longer cautious, mishap may happen. Thus, if in case you have an choice, it's intelligent to take some one with you. But for those who do not have an option, simply go and be nontoxic, and watch out, hold your eyes open and do not are trying lot of adventures, do not suppose strangers, don't wander round late nights, take taxi from inn and many others, simply basic cautions, nothing else.

Yes, and 18 year old can survive in LA quite nicely, but don't expect to be able to rent a fabulously expensive apartment in the Hollywood Hills. Try to dfind an apartment reasonably close to the university you plan to go to, knowing of course that rents on apartments REALLY REALLY close to the university are generally jacked up.

My experience with people who say "I am more mature than most people" is that just by saying that, they tend to be LESS mature than other people.

Just because you're more "mature" for you age doesn't cut out several key facts. First LA is a rather pricey area to live. As such, you'd probably need a roommate. You'll need a job, and more than likely you'll be paying a very large portion of your paycheck on living expenses alone. I would say that you'd be living paycheck to paycheck and one wrong purchase or choice could put you back severely.

Unless you're going there with a plan, no it is not feasible.

    the answer is simple... nooooo!

I moved to san diego when i was 17 and did the exact same thing . It was extremely difficult and I was forced to drop out.

If you dont listen to anybody and end up venturing out by yourself (which i do not suggest) then you should see about getting food stamps if your college does not offer a meal program so you aren't starving.

that was a suggestion i wish someone would have suggested that to me XD
