How can any self respecting woman follow bible?

If bible is the word of god, then this god is very sexist. for e.g.:

1 Timothy 2:12 : "I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, she must be silent."

1Corinthians 14:34-35

34 Women should remain silent

in the churches. They are not

allowed to speak, but must be in

submission, as the law says.

35 If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their

own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in

the church.

..and many more.

How can any woman justify these verses? And if they can't, does that mean that they also believe that bible is not a word of god but just a piece of writing or combination of writings that were written by some random men in a male dominated society, and is completely irrelevant now? Please don't reply with "these versus are not word of god, but others are" because you can't just pick and choose, as these verses were used many times as a basis to oppose female priests.

please all female christians, kindly reply.

Update:

@fireball it says that "women can't teach or have authority over a man" how does that has to do with where they are sitting?

It's not only about not talking in church there are many other verses:

Numbers 31:17

"Now kill all the boys [innocent

kids]. And kill every woman who

has slept with a man, but save

for yourselves every girl who has

never slept with a man."

1 Corinthians 11:3

But I want you to understand that

the head of every man is Christ,

the head of a wife is her husband,

and the head of Christ is God.

Update 2:

@planner

" this weakness has

been inherited by every woman

since." So you're saying that timothy was right and women should not teach or have authority over a man?

This is pretty saddening:/.

" God does not allow

women to lead men because

women tend to be easily deceived

into thinking something is good"

So you're saying that there should not be women leaders because they can be easily deceived??

I think you need help and some counselling.

Believing in good and bad makes you a realist, but no gods or devils exist anywhere outside of any ones improperly programed before birth or brainwashed after birth unstable childish minds!!! Religions only concept of belief is telling big enough lies frequently enough to gain them tax free income for life, using gods and devils as whores to bring in the johns!!!

  • The bible is the word of God Paul was addressing the cultural church where worshipers were separated according to custom and were gossiping and disrupting meetings. However the teaching should be balanced with the fact that many women in bible times were Prophets. Deborah Judges 4:4 Anna Luke 2:36 also the daughters of Philip.Acts 21:9

Once born again one is neither male nor female Jew or gentile in Christ there is total equality. Julia Romans 16:15 was a church leader as was Prisca 1 Corinthians 16:19

  • Don't know which translation you got this from, but that is not what was written in the original texts.

The Apostle Paul was speaking about a specific situation in the Christian church. Numerous people, both men and women, were sometimes speaking up during the teaching (we'll call it the sermon) and asking questions about what was being taught...so much so that it was beginning to be a problem because it was interrupting the learning of others. But this was becoming a very big problem with the sisters of the congregation. Why?

Well, while in original Judaism women actually held a much higher place than in most societies, the Judaism that these Christians were emerging from had become highly influence by Greek culture of the time, and the Greek culture considered women highly inferior. So while the women in the original Hebrew culture learned all the teachings right along with the men, by this time the Jewish culture had learned to treat women as inferior and had begun refusing to teach them anything at all.

But the Christian faith is based on the prophecies of the Hebrew faith in the Old Testament and the teachings were built upon those prophecies. These women had never heard those prophecies, so they had a lot of trouble understanding the Christian teachings that were building on those original Hebrew teachings. Logically, they would ask about it as they heard it in the sermon, but it was getting distracting to others who were also trying to learn.

So what the Apostle Paul said was that for everyone, but especially the women, that they hold off on the questions and keep their questions in mind for later. That way the interruptions would stop and more people could gain from the teachings right then. And then later if the woman did not understand because she did not have the needed information on the Hebrew teachings, she could ask her husband later as he most likely did know the original Hebrew teachings, not having been prevented from learning them like she had been due to the Greek influence on Hebrew culture.

It is not saying women can't say a word in the church at all. It is only saying that we must consider the needs of all in the congregation, and this was the Apostle Paul's way of ensuring that the most people got the needed teachings, while still ensuring the female did benefit from it, albeit a little later when her husband, who had the needed information, could assist her without interrupting the learning of others.

    Edit:

In fact, God himself encourages women to speak and preach the truth:

Psalms 68:11--Jehovah himself gives the saying, the women telling the good news are a large army.

Notice: Jehovah himself. Jehovah (God according to Exodus 6:3, Psalms 83:18, and Isaiah chapters 12 and 26 in the King James Version) is the one who is giving this saying. Jehovah himself is the one to recognize the efforts of women, and how much they are responsible for the spreading of God's message. God himself thanks them for their efforts.

Because some prefer to be ignorant tended sheep than actually face life on their own.

A self-respecting woman wouldn't follow the Bible. They leave that to the weak-minded simps with zero self-esteem.

    ADDENDUM

"It is very important to understand that the Bible’s ascribing different roles to men and women does not constitute sexism."

Only to willfully ignorant fools who carefully ignore the rest of your preferred comic book.

Read Leviticus 27? A woman is explicitly valued at half a man.

The Bible is one of the most misogynist pieces of "literature" ever assembled. That's why Christian men love it so. It gives them divine right to lord it over other ignoramuses when, in reality, they couldn't prevail over an earthworm on their own merit.

    Simple!

Because I understand it so much better than nonbelievers.

For example, I have studies the passage in 1 Cor. 14:34-35 well enough to know that this is something that the church of Corinth wrote to Paul. Paul responded to them and rebuked them, pointing out that the men were not the only ones who received the word of God.

Read it in context, and remember those rules you learned in Bible study. (You have taken something as important as your salvation seriously enough to study it, haven't you?) The things that you need to know when you read Scripture are important details. It was written in different languages. It was written in and about different cultures. The original languages had no punctuation.

Because there is no punctuation, you can not discern where the things Paul wrote begin and where the things that Corinth wrote to Paul end. Therefore, it helps to know the attributes of God, know that God is not a sexist womanizer, and that He did not put a sexist womanizer in charge of writing most of the New Testament.

1Cr 14:34-35 Let your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak; but they are to be submissive, as the law also says. And if they want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for women to speak in church.

Here, in my own paraphrase, is what the passage is saying:

Corinth: "Hi Paul. We are oppressing our women. We don't let them speak in church."

My comment: No where in the law does it say this. A good Bible student would research that fact, and know that it is not Paul claiming that it does.

Next Bible study lesson. CONTEXT CONTEXT CONTEXT!

    1Cr 14:36-37

Or did the word of God come originally from you? Or was it you only that it reached? If anyone thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things which I write to you are the commandments of the Lord.

My Commentary: Paul is saying "What? You do what? Who do you think you are? What makes you think that you are the only ones who have God's word and that others do not?"

1Cr 14:38 But if anyone is ignorant, let him be ignorant.

    My commentary: Are you teachable?

Reading the whole passage in context, in the context of the whole letter, you will see that over and over Paul writes "Now concerning..." and goes on to whatever issues that Corinth had written him about.

    Bottom lines:

1.) Do not make the mistake of taking the question of Corinth as Paul's command!

2.) Know God. Know His character. Know His attributes. Know that He created woman as well as man.

3.) Know the character of people who hate God. They will twist the Word anyway that they can if it keeps people from God.

This self respecting Christian follows God. In order to do that, I must study, seek Him, and ask Him when I do not understand some portion of His word. I strongly suggest that anyone who does not understand Scripture do the same.

these verses are indeed the word of God and they are part of the key to a truly happy life as a woman. i am a woman who has studied this subject backwards and forwards for the past 27 years and here is the 411 on this subject.

the first thing we have to do is to take each of these verses in context. that is true of all bible verses on any subject. it is not correct to isolate verses because they end up being taken out of context.

1 timothy 2:12 is part of the information which the apostle paul was being used by God to convey to timothy who was a very young (around 19) pastor over the church at ephesus. his mother and his grandmother were responsible for timothy's conversion from judaism to christianity and they had taught him well, but he was still very young, so paul took him under his wing so to speak as a son.

chapter 2 of 1 timothy is all about how timothy should expect the men and the women of his church to behave themselves if they were truly christians seeking after the will of God. he explains in verses 9-15 that women had to behave themselves in a certain way because it was through the woman eve that sin had been brought into the entire world, therefore because of what God pronounced to eve as part of her chastisement for her sin was that her desire should be toward her husband and he should rule over her, dear sister eve took womanhood from the position of being an equal partner with man to needing to have man as head over her because she allowed satan to deceive her, which weakness has been inherited by every woman since.

verse 14 says that adam, or the man, was not deceived, but the woman eve was deceived by satan. we all know that adam also ate of the forbidden fruit, but he didn't do it because satan had deceived him into believing it was going to make him like God the way eve was. adam did it because his wife eve told him it was good and that God had lied to him in telling them they would die if they ate that fruit because she was not dead. so adam believed his wife and ate the fruit. therefore God does not allow women to lead men because women tend to be easily deceived into thinking something is good and will use their persuasive powers to convince their men to do what the man knows better than to do.

the scripture in 1 corinthians chapter 14 were written because the corinthian believers were all previously gentiles or non-jewish so they had no idea how worship was supposed to be conducted and it had come to be that the women were interupting services by asking questions outloud which was hindering the flow of the spirit during services. so the Lord had paul tell them it was not allowed for them to do that and if they had questions to ask their husbands once they got home.

It is very important to understand that the Bible’s ascribing different roles to men and women does not constitute sexism. The Bible makes it abundantly clear that God expects men to take the leadership role in the church and the home. Does this make women inferior? Absolutely not. Does this mean women are less intelligent, less capable, or viewed as less in God’s eyes? Absolutely not! What it means is that in our sin-stained world, there has to be structure and authority. God has instituted the roles of authority for our good. Sexism is the abuse of these roles, not the existence of these roles.

1 Corinthians 11:5 mentions women praying and prophesying in the church and does not condemn it. Therefore, 1 Corinthians 14:33-35 must not be an absolute command for women to always be silent in church.

CREATION - (Genesis 1:27) "So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."

SALVATION - (Galatians 3:28) "There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."

MARRIAGE - (Colossians 3:19) "Husbands, love your wives and never treat them harshly."

(1 Peter 3:7) "In the same way, you husbands must give honor to your wives. Treat your wife with understanding as you live together. She may be weaker than you are, but she is your equal partner in God's gift of new life. Treat her as you should so your prayers will not be hindered."

(Ephesians 5:25) "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her."

I keep seeing this same verse being posted, when trying to discredit woman regarding the bible.

Usually people who post those verses have no understanding of the context of both the scripture and the time that scripture was written. Why, and When.

Jesus Christ calls Christian females, his daughters, his family.

He paved a way for us, when there was none.
