Plastic bottle design - where do I get it made? Enterpreneur/Ideas?
I have a new business venture that I would like to pursue. Without revealing much the product is similar to a shampoo bottle. There is nothing like it so I need to have it custom made. I know that I can go to alibaba and get it made in china but it would require too many quantities to be made. I am not there yet. I want to make it in the US (I live in So Cal) so the quantity is low.
My thought process is that I would need to get a design over the a plastic company where they create the product. I don't know too much about injection molds but I think that comes later once I am ready to make multiple quantities.
Where do I go for this type of business? I did a google search and found a few bottling companies such as petcon but they are in montreal canada. I would like to find something in CA but haven't had much luck.
If anyone has experience or knowledge in manufacturing goods / idea of where to start, that would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

If you have an idea that you like, sketch it up even on some paper with dimensions, how much you need the container to hold and if you want it clear or in a color. An Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) is always a good idea. You don't necessarily need a patent to at least check out what's involved in starting your project. The NDA will protect you from having your product idea taken with a manufacturing company.
There are a few major types of processing in blow molding There is extrusion blow molding which is is a continual parison that drops consecutively, the mold clamps on to this and then blows air into the cavity making the plastic adhere to the outsides of the mold creating the bottle. This process is good for long consecutive runs.
There is also injection blow molding which works like an injection machine which has a screw and it reciprocates to fill the shot size and then injects the parison really quick. This could be a good method for your product. Usually for either of these processes you would probably need about a 10,000 part production run. The price breaks come with volume.
The third process involves what's called a preform which is injection molded and looks like a test tube. This preform is made of polyethylene terephthalate known as PET. This is a very glassy like look and is what plastic soda bottles are made from. On a very automated machine production can be very high, there is a lot of soda made everyday and they are not slow machines for sure.
I think the best fit for what you doing if you are wanting a custom bottle is to make it from some manual PET blow molding machines. You will have an upfront cost in the mold which could be thousands of dollars but from this same mold you could graduate and put it on an automated system that will make millions of bottles for you as your product sales.
If it is a short run and you are not planning much on expanding I would suggest that you find an existing bottle and put your label on it. This will save a lot of time and money on the upfront cost of the mold(s). If your product sales well then I would consider building your own mold and deciding what process will be the most effective for you. From what I gather you would probably want to start with injection blow molding or PET blow molding. We could get you started in PET blow molding for the least expense.
Best of luck!

First thing you need to know is this, go to a lawyer before you talk to anybody. You need to get a disclosure document made up so that when you go to talk to people about your ideas, they will not be able to make them because they signed a contract before you disclosed any information about your future product. Lawyers do free consultations before you pay. I would suggest finding a business lawyer and a patent lawyer first. Another thing to think about is finding a way to design a prototype yourself and getting a patent sent in right away. A patent lawyer will be able to guide you in the right direction by providing you with resources that you need to make the right decisions and take the correct course of action. Good luck.

Sorry, I don't know where you can get them. Just wanted to say that the charges are for handling. Also for cleaning. For each person/company that touches these bags, it cost money in salaries and supplies. I have fallen out of love with re-cycling.
