Admission to UCLA, will i have a chance of getting accepted?
Hello, i am in my junior year and i really want to attend UCLA because its one of the best schools in California,(and i am always wishing i can get into a good U.C) so my GPA now is 3.8 or maybe higher i am not sure. up to now in my high school i took honors English, honors biology, AP studio art and for next year i am looking to take AP literature and AP Psychology.
For my major i am looking to major in Psychology. so this junior year i took general psychology and next year i am taking AP psychology. so will i have a good chance of acceptance? oh and in all my classes i have very good grades and hopefully by the end of this year i will make it to have a higher GPA.
Oh and BY DA WAY i am not looking into UCLA just because its one of the best u.c, its also because i am looking to make a good goal towards future.i heard they are one of the best for psychology major. i already researched on their psychology undergrad. department , so please do not give me worthless answers and make me feel i am not looking in to the right u.c. in high school i am doing extremely well, but i just like to hear your opinions. Thanks in advance.

Well, your chances depend on your best SAT score too. GPA and class rigor is not the only thing that UCs like UCLA looks at. I know a high school senior that applied to UCLA for engineering major with a 4.2 weighted GPA, 2340 or something on the SAT and still got waitlisted. Psychology isn't the same as engineering, but you still have to do well on the SAT in general.
When you are applying for schools in November, you should apply to a variety of schools, not just one or two very good ones. You have to spread out your chances of being able to get into some where and not just depend on one or two UCs that get a lot of strong candidates like UCLA.

Is that 3.8 weighted or unweighted? Colleges only look at your unweighted GPA since every district weighs differently. In addition to having a high GPA though, you also need an extremely rigorous schedule, great SAT/ACT scores, stellar EC's, fantastic essays, recommendations, etc. If you live in-state, being in-state will also give you a giant boost.
Your schedule doesn't look very rigorous for UCLA. Your GPA is okay, but that's to be expected with your schedule. Without any further information though, it's very hard to tell.

While UCLA has an excellent Psychology program, it is research oriented. UCLA is known for its experimental psychology not its clinical psychology. If you want to get your Phd in research this is the school for you. If you are thinking about working with patients find a school that specializes in Clinical Psych. A BA in Psychology from any school is basically worthless. You must get an advanced degree to do anything in the field.
You need to get above 2200 on the SAT to get into UCLA.

Wanting to matriculate in an institute only because of it's reputation is not the best reason. Sorry to tell you, but your chance of getting accepted are menial. Remember, tier 1 institutions only accept students who they think fit. So you can have the best grades, SAT scores, outstanding letter of recommendations, 4.0 GPA, and a winning essay, but if the administrators don't consider you as a a fitting candidate, then they won't accept you.
My suggestion is for you to render some research about UCLA: programs, student body, environment, etc. Then try to bridge what UCLA has to offer to your aspiration.
