There are many reasons. For one, the government is irresponsible. The economy is failing because the country does not even export its own goods-- It consumes imported products like from America, China and etc. The agricultural workers aren't even given good education, thus weakening the economy. The country is overpopulated because most people aren't given good education and family planning. I can only think of a few right now. There are a lot more, but I can't just list them all down...

By 'democracy', you're saying, is that people abuse their positions in politics, am I right? Clearly, most people who run for politics are just usually in for the money, or protecting their money. And there is no actual democracy. Since the Church is there to stand against passing abortion laws and causing conflicts with politic debates or whatsoever.
