Do Satanists in any way shape or form admire/affiliate/look up to Satan?

I'm not sure of this, but I was told Satanists are atheists and it seems odd to me for this to be true.

I mean, IF (which is what I don't know) Satanists look up to, or have ANY form of belief in Satan, would this not make them theists, given that (as far as I'm aware of) "Satan" means "enemy of God" this one being Lucifer, which is actually a creation of God, imply that a belief in Satan must logically suppose a belief in God as well? I mean, how else did Satan come to be? I admit I'm ignorant on this topic, so before you assume an intellectual demolition, please be aware I don't claim to be an authority. GO!

Update:

First two answers completely contradict... great.

It depends on the kind of Satanism.

    Some do, some don't.

Edit: The first answer is the Luciferian view--theistic The second is Levayen - atheistic.

Both factions often seem to believe that their version of Satanism is THE version of Satanism.

No, we don't believe in Satan as a literal being. He's a convenient metaphor for many of the asinine things the Christian faith has deemed "sinful" that are, in fact, simple human nature and in no way harmful unless overdone. (Think in terms of the Seven Deadly Sins.)

Also, Satan doesn't mean "enemy of God." It means "adversary of man," as his role in the Bible was to lead man away from the path of God to ultimately damn him. Per the Qur'an, he did this because he was jealous of men because he was told to prostrate before them even though they were only made of clay, and he was made of the stuff of heavens. Additionally, Lucifer is not Satan. The only mention of Lucifer in the Bible is, for one, an arbitrary translation, and secondly, refers to King Nebuchadnezzar II, King of Babylon... Not Satan.

Edit: There are theistic and atheistic branches of Satanism, as well as theistic and atheistic branches of Luciferianism, The only organized religion that enjoys legal recognition in the United States that is called Satanism, is LaVeyan Satanism. Theistic branches are typically unorganized and claim barely a handful of members. The last official numbers the Church of Satan ever released for its membership was 200,000.

Source(s): I am a LaVeyan Satanist, and I've also studied the Christian Bible at length.

Satanists do not believe in Satan as actually existing persona, therefore no need to believe on god as well
