    In referring to David’s use of the “holy bread” in 1 Samuel 21:1-6, Jesus shows an important principle - human need is more important than religious ritual. The Sabbath was meant to serve man (the Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath).

    This is exactly what many people,(Sabbatarians and SDA's) steeped in tradition, simply cannot accept: that what God really wants is mercy before sacrifice (Hosea 6:6); that love to others is more important than religious rituals (Isaiah 58:1-9); that the sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and a contrite heart; these, O God, You will not despise (Psalm 51:17).

    “God prohibited work on the Sabbath day, lest servants should be oppressed by their masters, that the labouring beasts might have necessary rest, and that men might have proper opportunity to attend upon his ordinances, and get their souls saved.”

    “Any application of the Sabbath Law which operates to the detriment of man is out of harmony with God’s purpose.”

    The Sabbath, a day of rest, was made to give man a day to rest from his labor. It was meant to be a gift for the good of mankind, not a restriction or punishment of some kind. The Jewish religious leaders of the day focused on the restrictions associated with what you could not do on the Sabbath (many of which were created by the religious leaders with no scriptural authority, such as defining how far you could walk from home on the Sabbath), rather than identifying the benefits and reasoning behind the Sabbath.

    When a Jew defiantly refused to rest on the Sabbath, he was essentially saying that he knew better than God.

    It is only those who keep the Sabbath of Israel who say that we do not maintain a day of rest (Sabbath). Heb eight:5 They serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things. For when Moses used to be about to erect the tent, he was steered through God, announcing, "See that you make the whole thing in step with the pattern that used to be proven you on the mountain." Heb 8:6 however as it's, Christ has received a ministry that is as way more exceptional than the historic as the covenant he mediates is best, due to the fact that it is enacted on higher guarantees. Heb eight:7 For if that first covenant had been perfect, there would were no get together to look for a second. Heb eight:eight For he finds fault with them when he says: "Behold, the days are coming, pronounces the Lord, when i'll set up a brand new covenant with the condominium of Israel and with the apartment of Judah, Heb 10:8 When he stated above, "you could have neither favored nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt choices and sin offerings" (these are provided in line with the law), Heb 10:9 then he brought, "Behold, i have come to do your will." He does away with the primary in order to establish the 2d. Heb 10:10 And by using to be able to we've been sanctified via the delivering of the physique of Jesus Christ once for all. Heb 10:11 and each priest stands day-to-day at his carrier, supplying repeatedly the equal sacrifices, which is able to certainly not take away sins. Heb 10:12 but when Christ had supplied all the time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down on the correct hand of God, Heb 10:thirteen ready from that point except his enemies will have to be made a footstool for his ft.

    Jesus gives clarity for us to take a day of rest after working. This reflects the image of God in His own creative work. It also gives insight into the false teachings of the Priests and Rabbi's of what is required to observe the Sabbath.

    See Exodus 31:12-17 Sabbath was for rest, not duty (which is another kind of work).

    To teach man the life of faith. Sabbathing is resting, which is what we do when we claim promises from God and wait patiently for his fulfillment of his promises.

    Psalm 37

    7 Be still before the Lord

    and wait patiently for him;

    do not fret when people succeed in their ways,

    when they carry out their wicked schemes.

    A day of rest and a sign between mankind and their creator.

    Exodus 31:13

    "Speak also to the children of Israel, saying, 'Most certainly you shall keep my Sabbaths: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that you may know that I am Yahweh who sanctifies you.
