This is an interesting quote of Mohandas Gandhi...Do you agree with it? Or not?

He once stated..."This Christ of yours I admire greatly. Christians on the other hand I do not care for as not a single one of them can act Christ-like." May I have your views on this and my thanks in advance!

I think Gandhi was being facetious. He was pointing out an irony that has been well-known for centuries, that there isn't much in Jesus' teachings even a Hindu could disagree with, but that Christians who profess to follow Jesus often don't even try to live up to his principles.

Without observing every Christian on earth, Gandhi could not seriously say that there wasn't a single Christian who could act Christ-like. The fact is, there are Christians who do a pretty good job. I know a few. But Gandhi's point was that they're rare.

The great irony of human history is that almost all the wars, genocide, slavery, mass killing, hatreds that last for centuries, etc. etc. are either caused or justified by religions putatively based on universal love and tolerance.

I'm pretty sure that a lot of people agree with this quote and people do have justifiable reasons for it. I don't agree with this quote completely. It's true that there a lot of Christians who say that they are following Christ, but they aren't actually following his teachings. But not all Christians are like that, and I don't find it fair that he's grouping all Christians into the group that don't follow Christ's teachings. I hope I helped.

The sons of God are few and far between.

I have read the bible, and I have to say, even being no Saint or Angel myself, many who go to church don't read it.

So I guess this is why Christ said the following.

    ◄ Matthew 13:13 ►

This is why I speak to them in parables: "Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.

I think that he hit the nail on the head. In my own experience only JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES make a real effort to be Christ-like in their words and actions.

Many so called Christians today don't know what it really means to be Christian at all.

It makes me figuratively ill because the Christian response to all criticism is, "We're all sinners. Don't judge!" And then they will in turn judge a Hindu.

    ...

Who cares he slept with naked ladies, Steve. Stop judging him by your prudish standards. Now shut your mouth and go get us a pizza.

He was right, look around R&S.

Are you seeing love, understanding and compassion for your fellow man?

Or are you seeing 'christians' use their bible to try and deny people their human rights and exclude entire sections of the community?

Gandhi must have not met many Christians then. And you know the dude slept with a bunch of naked ladies every night, right?

  • I know that quote and I agree with it and think like that too.

it fairly is complicated one yet... "i think all individuals who have faith in freedom, tolerance and human rights have a duty to oppose bigotry and prejudice in keeping with sexual orientation." that is by making use of Coretta Scott King this one is extra useful to me. :-)
