Opposing Output Gearbox?
I am trying to build a moving sign. I need a gearbox with opposing outputs. Does anyone know is a riding lawn mower rear end can be modified to do that? Or any ideas on any other device that will work. I need a good duty cycle, not much load.

A lawn mower would have non-opposing outputs, since both wheels turn forward.
If the load is not that heavy, belts and pulleys may be easier to design with, less expensive and quieter, but they won't last as long as gears. If synchronizing is important, you could use cog belts and cogged pulleys.
