Surgeons and Islam Question?

Hi-I'm a nursing student and I was watching a video on You Tube of a surgical procedure that took place in Egypt. It made me think of something.

I know that under the rules of Islam that people are allowed to take care of themselves and others and avoid any harm, like a pregnant woman or diabetic doesn't have to fast during Ramadan and a doctor can ignore the call to prayer if someone needs help.

But do doctors and surgeons schedule the procedures that they need to perform around the prayer times? I don't mean in an emergency. I mean when something is prescheduled? Is that how hospitals in Islamic countries do scheduling for procedures?

I'm just wondering so I would appreciate your answers.

THere is usually several hours between prayers...so unless the operation is an extrememly complicated on there is enough time to pray and operate and then pray again etc. It is also allowed to combine prayers when necessary...so a dr could pray at noon, then not again till 7 or 8 in the evening. Most hospitals dont really take the prayer into account when scheduling, some observant doctors do however. My wife didnt take appts at her clinc at certain times...but again its pretty flexible overall

No. We have watches and clocks and we can tell time and that's how scheduling is done just like in any other part of the world.

No. Islam is not that strict. We are not extremists lol. Of course saving someone's life is much more important than praying!
