How do you watch disturbing movies?

I'm watching a movie now where a few people are skinned alive and thrown over a ledge. It doesn't show a lot but the whole thing is pretty disturbing to me. I normally avoid things like Saw and movies with this level of violence.

How do you be less bothered by it? It's not like I'm a kid, either lol

Simple. By starting with slightly disturbing movies, and watching more and more disturbing movies as you go on. It's called "desensitizing."

I speak from experience. I just finished watching House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects yesterday, and it's funny, because 7 years ago I wouldn't have been able to watch the first 3 minutes of either movie. 7 years ago I started watching more rated R movies and then developed a taste for horror. At first I could only watch tame stuff. I tried The Hills Have Eyes (2006) and had to fast forward through a lot of it, it was too much for me. But the more I watched, the more I got used to it.

Now, I can watch almost anything. I say almost because I still fast forward through some (Cannibal Holocaust, Human Centipede, etc) and refuse to watch others (A Serbian Film, Martyrs, etc). But I have dipped into some equally disturbing stuff, like Train, The Collector, the Saw films (LOVE the first one), Funny Games, Killer Joe, Hostel, The Last House on the Left, Men Behind the Sun, Dead Alive, and Nekromantik.

Andrew doesn't have a clue. There are hundreds of movies way more disturbing than Pulp Fiction. I've listed a few.

Remind yourself that it's only a movie. Also - react if you feel the need to react (look away, scream, or cry). Scenes like those are meant to illicit that kind of response, and it's healthy to do so, even if the scenes are subtle and don't actually show a lot. If you react normally as you watch, you'll find that afterward it was really an enjoyable (maybe even therapeutic) experience.

I watch them in segments. A few minutes each time it is on. Same with movies that are not that great.

Took me 10 times to get through Alien and could not watch the sequels.

I love horror movies and dealing with disturbing imagery/scenes I just think of it this way, it's just a movie and the people are acting and it is all fake so it gets me through the scenes lol

It just matters how strong ur stomach is and how sensative you are. Different people can handle different stuff.
