What is your religious stance on marijuana?
Trying to gauge peoples opinion's. Maine Ld1229 is in legislature now to legalize it in the state of Maine. Maybe even within the year
I dont think religion really should come to play either guys. I just knew I wouldn't get an answer in the politics section and didn't want to use that tired old spiritually speaking line

As a Christian, I sometime have to take medicine for various illnesses. Some of these medications could be abused by someone with impure motives, but overall the benefits remain the same. The same is true with marijuana. If it is legalized, it would serve to benefit those who need it. Abuse of such would be the same as someone abusing tramadol or something like that. Notice the Bible's viewpoint of drugs:
(2 Corinthians 7:1) Therefore, since we have these promises, beloved ones, let us cleanse ourselves of every defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in God’s fear.
God wants us to be free of practices that pollute our physical bodies and damage our mental inclination and ultimately our spirituality.
(Matthew 22:37) He said to him: “‘You must love Jehovah your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind.’
How can we love God with our whole mind if our God-given thinking ability is dulled or our life shortened?
(Titus 3:1)“Be in subjection and be obedient to governments and authorities as rulers.”
In many lands, the possession or use of certain drugs is a violation of the law. As true Christians, we do not possess or use illegal drugs.—Romans 13:1.
If marijuana is legalized, it should not be used recreationally, but to aid in treating whatever illness a person may have.

Its my life! Its a human right, in inalienable right!
[Lights up]
Sad to say however it is going to come back to religion and the past actions of the GOV.
1. Cannabis would break the spell that the churches have on the masses, can't have that now can we!
2. Making it legal would open the GOV and States to lawsuits. That's why people are sitting in jail. Which I hope they will learn of the lesser charges that most receive now days and ask for release with time served. Even that move would put everyone in danger
3. There are those of us that have sought other ways legally to smoke, even if we are not in a State that allows for it. http://nativeamericanchurches.org/ (what do you have to lose?) Read the rights of the members!
4. Since the Jedou Christian terrorist began to rule the world they wanted cannabis gone once they realized it would create a problem.

People will have trouble with it because it is against their core beliefs

I don't really think there is a 'religious' stance. I guess its bad stuff, but the question is, does the government have the right to prohibit it? I don't think prohibition has worked with marijuana any more than it worked with alcohol in the 30s. So I say, go ahead and legalize it. The reason kids get into it is because its forbidden. If it wasn't forbidden, then it would slowly die away.
Plus by legalizing it, the prices would be driven down, and drug dealers would lose their market.
That's my thought on the matter. But I would never smoke it, nor endorse it. I just think it was a mistake to prohibit it in the first place.

My religion has no opinion on it, other than the fact that it is a natural substance, and therefore is probably less bad for you than artificial substances.
Personally, I am for legalizing and taxing it, selling it just like hard alcohol. I have the same concerns about it, too, that I do with regards to hard alcohol. Too much, too often tends to make the spirit sick and dull. Moderation is always important.

I'm an atheist so religiously, I don't care.
It has been my observation that it is no more dangerous than alcohol...as in it kills brain cells and temporarily impairs reaction but as far as I know, smoking cigarettes is more harmful...that stuff causes cancer not only to the user but those around him/her.
Marijuana should be legal like alcohol, but with regulations.

dont do it. it is just as much a poison as it seems to be a part of medicine.
if part of medicine, in the form of canibus, there are other ingredients to be used. and it is injested not smoked, according to the bible.
the first day pot was legalized in my state, fellow workers were smoking on a company bus, it should not be smoked indoord where a child lives, and it should not be smoked in public housing complexes or hotles where there is not adequate air conditioning. 2nd hand pot can get people high too, and those that dont want to get high should not suffer to be so by others desiring to get it.
for me smoking pot ruined my life. but there other things that are worse.
for a desperate person which pot can heal certain maladies , i accept that they would need to do what is correct.
i dont think jesus was a hippie, nor did he ever drink strong drink and smoke pot. these false myths
the bible says God will destroy all plants that he did not plant. i think numbered among them is GMO Corn created by monsanto and marijuana plants.

There are no religious beliefs against cannabis, it should be legal. Even the most well known Christians are opposed to the war on cannabis, it locks away young people and they come out hardened criminals.

Well I do not have a religious stance on it but I do think it should be fully legal and monitored in the same way that alcohol is!

420 Blaze it.
Seriously though, marijuana is stupid and I'm not even religous. It makes you paranoid, it smells awful and it makes people stupid; you develop a mental addiction for it and it's ultimately bad for you.
Although in terms of health effects (apart from brainrot and addiction) it's probably not as bad for you as nicotine and tobacco so I don't understand why governments haven't legalised it yet. It can be taxed and regulated by trading standards the same way as alcohol. People probably wouldn't want it as much if it wasn't illegal or edgy though.

Anything that alters your conscience is not a good idea. God's says we should be sound in mind. We open ourselves up to POSSIBLE influence from the demons.
