Nazis demonstrated in my city and extremist left-wingers violently protested — does this ever happen in the US?

There is no significant group of left-wingers in the U.S. The right-wingers with their neo-fascism are always rallying around something stupid but people just laugh at them. Rarely does anything ever get violent.

Last time I remember anything like that happening was during the civil-rights era, unless you count the Kent State massacre when national guard troops fired on unarmed students demonstrating against our involvement in Vietnam. Ghandi, Martin Luther King, and Nelson Mandella got it right -- you can accomplish a lot more through passive resistance than trying to stomp your adversaries into submission.

Yes, it has happened, but not in a long time. The Nazis are a very small group and people just as often laugh at them, as they do to really pay them any attention. The same applies to the KKK groups.

Protests in the US tend to be pretty peaceful as long as the protestors don't do anything stupid and provoke a very enthusiastic police response.

sometimes the klan holds a rally... and people protest against them...

usually it's just a handful of people supporting the klan and a couple of hundred protesting them... and all they do is yell across the street at each other...

I haven't seen any because the right is more peaceful in this country. The left is violent and call it "passion".
