DNA testing and human evolution?

Did/can scientists test the DNA of human bones and skull.

If not, how can they so sure that one is the ancestor of the other by simply measuring the physical appearance and dating?

is it just a matter of interpretation by placing the skulls in chronicle order? For example placing A, B and C in such chronicle order and interpret that A evolved B and C simply because they have something in common and something different?

Thanks.

Evolution would make predictions, such as we will find Australopithecus in this part of the world, in this layer of strata based on geographic distribution and time period. When the predictions come true, and they usually do, it is used as evidence for our fossil record leading back to our common ancestor.

DNA evidence is used to test our predictions as well. For example, scientists believe that birds evolved from reptiles, so we measure how similar their DNA is to reptiles, and find that they are closest to reptiles, farther from mammals, farther from fish, farther from bacteria etc.

It's really more complicated than that, but I am by no means a teacher. I suggest "the greatest show on earth" or just some Internet research if you want to learn about DNA and genetic evidence.
