Q: "Do they still make Colt Detective Special revolvers in a snub nose and if no what's a very similar gun?"

A: They stopped production of the Colt Detective Special several years ago. Some are still available in used condition from a variety of gun shops and websites.

The snub-nosed revolver I've seen that comes closest to duplicating the Colt Detective Special's capabilities is the Taurus Model 856 (because it has a cylinder that holds 6 cartridges, just like the Colt Detective Special).

If you're willing to have a snub-nosed revolver that holds 5 cartridges, then several models are available from Smith & Wesson, Taurus, Ruger and a few other manufacturers.

Alas, no. The last time Colt made the Detective Special was from 1993 to 1995. Then they discontinued it completely.

A firearm with the same number of shots and dimensions is currently produced by Charter Arms as the Police Undercover:

That's all I can find that's close. There are 5-shot snubbies such as the S&W or Taurus J-frames, or even the other Charter Arms Undercover -- but the Colt Detective Special was fairly unique in the fact that it was a very small revolver but still had 6 chambers. Only the Police Undercover has 6 chambers and is still in current production.

lower back in 1949??? I quite have been a police officer because of the fact the early 70s. in keeping with my conversations with the old timers, you would be conversing the Colt Detective particular or the variety 10-2. No police detectives carried semi-automobiles in the 40's and 50s (or maybe in an incredible form of the 60s & 70s). it would not be unusual for them to hold a variety 10 with a 4 inch barrel. i actually all got to work as a detective wearing a 4 inch revolver, and for years carried my 3 inch variety sixty 5 .357 revolver instead of my issued computerized. it is likewise incredibly probable that they'd not have a shot gun of their arsenal the two. yet, in the event that they did, my wager could be a Winchester variety 12

A very similar one is the S&W Model 686 with a 2.5 inch barrel, which is still made. It is a six shot and you will love it if you get one. Another plus is you can shoot .357 magnum rounds. With a white outline rear sight and a red insert in the front sight you will be amazed at the accuracy.

You can have a custom gun made modeled after it but not identical. Personally I would pay for a bigger cylinder.
