Arguments against Eugenics?

Just want to make it clear that I'm not for eugenics - I have a debating project that I'm doing with my friends where each group took a position out of a hat and then got a side to defend. I'm defending eugenics, which'll be pretty damn hard because eugenics is ******* awful but I'm going to be objective and try to win the argument all the same. I'm just curious about which kinds of arguments I'm likely going to be up against.

    1) Most people associate eugenic with race but it can be used against those with abnormality, diseases, and those prone to mental illness.

    2) Not all people are not against people aborting their fetus if they have an abnormality like Down Syndrome. Note: eugenics is not discrimination if done before birth.

    3) People with disabilities such as this cost more economically.

    4) We already have cases where people are getting sperm or eggs chosen in fertility clinics based on race, hair color, height, and other things. Gender is the only characteristic you can't pick at all for some reason.

    5) Many genetic diseases can be eliminated through eugenics and we can have a society full of more intelligent people.

    6) We can also eliminate other ills in society like people prone to getting addicted to drugs easily and people prone to mental illness. This will make the world safer.

    7) We also have too many people on the planet already.

    8) Now we know more about genes and can actually eliminate the right people and not those base on external factors.

Most of these are arguments for not against but you have an idea how to put some of these to use. However in debate never assume your opponent is stupid but smart.

    Arguments against...

    1) The prejudice argument- This argument suggests that all prejudice is wrong but some prejudice is reality.

    2) Eugenics is a thing of the past. Remember my abortion and infertility argument.

    3) Human rights- If abortion rights are protected than the parents will be the eugenic providers. If the woman has the right to chose why not a child that is smart.

Most anti-eugenics people's arguments are utopic like all people are equal.

well the most effective case of eugenics that i have ever read about was when Hitler condemned the jews

whether it actually went down like that is another thing but it is possible that it might be brought up

eugenics was formed around racial prejudices that have been proven to be incorrect

such as intelligence being predetermined by factors like colour of hair, skin, eye

i think actually it is easier to argue for eugenics than against it because if it were done in a way that didn't involve mass murder or the infringement of free will then it would really just be a campaign to make people more aware of selective breeding#

It's inauthentic-Lacan said, "The only thing of which one can be guilty is having given ground relative to one's desire". Therefore if we went around mating with people on some arbitrary "scientific" basis, instead of making love to people we love-we would be freaking miserable. Therefore eugenics won't make us happy people, so why bother?

Similarly, it's unclear how enhanced human performance increases utility. If we build a new breed of super athletes Hulk-like capabilities, does that mean we would need a new breed of super sports fans with say, huge bladders so they sit through a whole game without taking a leak?

It replaced into deserted in the main because of the fact it wasn't consistent with empiricism. because of the fact the 20 th century progressed substantial discoveries in biology, anatomy, and psychology rendered many of the examine and theories of Eugenics null and ineffective. What little replaced into properly worth saving replaced into integrated into the trendy field of Genetics. Eugenics is to in demand day genetics what alchemy is to organic and organic chemistry, that's a retired set of theories that are purely of activity to historians. It additionally has an extremely undesirable popularity through that reality that that's proponents have been extremely in a position to impact public coverage, and this had intense unfavorable impacts on many harmless people.
