What do you think of this bumper sticker?

It reads, "If you opposed warfare as much as welfare you could be a real Christian."

I think it makes a great point. The Bible says "thou shalt not kill." Not thou shalt not kill unless your government tells you too.

Also, Jesus instructed his followers to love one another and take care of each other.

    I like that bumper sticker.

I have mentioned the Bible verse James 1:27 several times since I started answering questions here, but it applies to this question too.

A major part of "pure" religion is about helping those who are less fortunate than ourselves. This should be a big theme that those of us who profess to be Christians should focus on, in my opinion.

On a related note, if we the people rise up and demand that the politicians themselves be sent to the front lines in a war, instead of poor young people, maybe there would suddenly be fewer wars.

Sure, YHWH the Bible god says "thou shalt not kill", BUT then goes on for hundreds of pages telling his special, chosen people who they MUST murder, rape, and plunder. He rewards them for their obedient actions and punishes them when they fail to slaughter all of the people he commanded them to murder. And then in the New Testament it's back to thou shalt not kill or even hate someone, followed by commands to be hateful towards non-Christians.

There's no such thing as a "real Christian", only Christians who pick-n-choose different contradictory parts of the Bible to follow. Jesus was almost a saint in some parts of the Bible, and an outright @$$hole in other parts. That's probably why some Christians are pretty nice, and others are total pr*cks! There's a verse supporting virtually every moral: good and bad.

    Peace!

It is true God said thou shalt not kill. But there is nothing wrong with protecting the innocent. If someone is about to murder an innocent person, and I kill him, I did not commit a sin. I protected someone.

Warfare is unfortunate but sometimes very necessary when defending your country. God is fine with that along with being fine with protecting yourself from personal harm when being attacked.

We are our brothers' keeper and are shown what it means to God when we provide for their needs in James 1:27 and Matthew 25:34-40. That being said, there's nothing wrong with government programs providing for needs as well.

Oh noes! You're going to get a bunch of lectures from Christians who don't understand the true nature of goodness.

What do you think of the book of Joshua?

I like it a whole lot better than your bumper sticker.

Read the bible especially the old testament and see how many women and children your space daddy killed.
