Hormel, the people who make SPAM and other canned meat products, openly state on their web site that so long as their cans are kept in good condition the true expiration date is indefinite. This is also true of a great number of different canned products.
If a can of food is going to go bad chances are it will be fruit or a product with a heavy tomato base. The acids in these foods will eventually eat through the seals. This problem can be avoided by using a dehydrator and vacuum sealing the food in a glass mason jar. We have about nine quart jars of spaghetti sauce dried and ground into a fine powder. About nine large cans fit in a quart jar once dehydrated and ground into a powder. Dehydrating isn't just for can goods. We have dehydrated sweet potatoes, potatoes, (even our own home made instant mashed potatoes), carrots, peas, onions, etc.
Flour is the bane of many preppers. In the bag it comes in it's good for about two years. Placed in vacuum sealed mason jars, (and kept out of sunlight), it's good for about four years. It's why many people decide to store wheat instead. Powdered milk also has a rather short shelf life.
The worse thing of all is of course eggs. I've seen a dozen different methods trying to make powdered eggs at home. None of them came out well. Eggs might not seem all that important but without them there will be no more cake. What civilized man would want to survive without cake?

Rice stores a long time if kept dry.
Instead of buying bunches of survival storage food which will eventually be inedible, I suggest having a very large stock of the foods that you actually use, like 24 cans each of corn, green beans, peas, baked beans, etc. Cycle the older cases to the front as you use them so that they arent more than a year or two old.

dehydrated camping foods are usually a good choice. However, even those types of products should be replaced 3 - 5 yrs. Check with Walmart - they do carry a lot of stuff.
Canned foods will spoil over time.
Rice and dried beans will last a very long time - stored in plastic bins is advised.
good luck.

Some canned goods can be stored for longer time as well as the dried grains beans and lintels. But all foods are guided by the best before dates to protect the consumers. However when it' s on sale we get crazy and think that its a saving when the price is low .Even though its you who will maintain the so called first in first out basis. by trying to put the earlier goods purchased in front so they will be used first. and that is a sound stock management.

Canned foods and dried foods. Honey will survive the best. It might crystallize but it will survive a thousand years. They found honey in Egyptian tombs that was still good.
Canned food still only has a limited shelf life. Dried foods are ok as long as they stay dry. Your better to learn how to grow your own food.
