There is no "typical" portrait tattoo. You say medium well none of us know your medium, tattoos cost by the hour, amount of detail, artist, size, location, and/or detail. There is no set way of determining the cost of a tattoo. What you need to do is call them ask when an artist will be free take what you want done in and show him/her where you want it. They can give you a price that way, before getting a tattoo you should always meet the artist first and look at his work. In a way you need to interview the artist, if the shop doesn't do this there is a red flag FIND A DIFFERENT SHOP!
